Carpe Diem
Hello Hive, I am hoping that you can make some suggestions for a world history class for my 10th grader. We are off to a slow start and I am beginning to realize that Sonlight 20th Century World History might not be a good fit, too many books and it is overwhelming trying to navigate the curriculum. I am looking for something more straightforward. I am open to online or textbook or even a video learning situation or a combination. Thank you! SilverMoon
Oak Meadow, getting the textbook used off Amazon and just the guide from OM. DD found it enjoyable and it's very simple to implement.
Kassia
Oak Meadow, getting the textbook used off Amazon and just the guide from OM. DD found it enjoyable and it's very simple to implement. We are using Oak Meadow World History this year and like it. My daughter thought she hated history, but she is really enjoying this course so far.
HollyDay
If you want to stay literature approach, take a peek at Beautiful Feet. I think it is a bit more manageable than Sonlight. If you want a text book, then all the curriculum houses have World History: BJU, Abeka, Alpha Omega, PAC, Notgrass, Holt

MerryAtHope
If you like Sonlight but it's mainly the number of books, consider just focusing on the spine text. Then pick and choose from the history, literature, and Bible books, focusing on those that appeal most to you. Aim to spend an hour per day on history (spine plus any other books) and an hour per day on English (I used to do 30 minutes for reading lit and 30 minutes for writing). Do 30 minutes or an hour for Bible depending on what you are awarding for a credit there (30 minutes X 180 days would be a half credit, for example). You'll still get a literature-rich curriculum this way but in a way that's doable for your family.

TCB
My dd really enjoyed SWB's History of the Ancient World. We used the study guide, but not really exactly as it was supposed to be. She read 2-3 chapters a week, and sometimes did the comprehension questions and sometimes the analysis question of one of the chapters. We didn't do the map work as she had done a lot of map stuff with 'Mapping the World with Art.' She really learned a lot and really enjoyed it. Momto6inIN
We're planning on using these Great Courses lectures along with World History Detective and a couple of essays on world religions and the Reformation for some output. Not super rigorous by any means, but interesting and fun and covers the bases for Ancient/Medieval World History.
