Outdoorsy Type
Back/shoulders/arm feeling sunburned when they aren't. Like it hurts to be hugged or tapped on the upper arm/shoulder/back area. It isn't a rash or anything you can see. Ideas?

Guest
Shingles? Before the rash? That what came to my mind too. Is it only one one side of your body or both arms/shoulders?

I may be spelling it wrong. edited to add link http://www.patienthelp.org/diseases-conditions/hyperesthesia.html I know about it because cats can get it. zoobie
It's a type of neuropathy (nerve pain). My oldest also described the onset of shingles that way. Do you have any neurological or autoimmune issues? Anxiety? Random google turned up carbon monoxide poisoning as well: http://mobile.nytimes.com/2003/11/04/health/cases-the-sunless-sunburn-mystery.html

It could also be auto immune related and I am going to the Rheumatologist soon. For the last few days, every time someone hugs me it feels like a sunburn hug. ETA: I have a carbon monoxide detector and no one else has symptoms. It could be, but probably isn't likely the culprit. Thanks though! ktgrok
Have you used any new lotions/shampoos/soaps? I react with a feeling like that to some chemicals.

No new shampoos or lotions. I have had several really awful headaches lately, so that could all be tied together.
ktgrok
Between the nerve pain and the headaches I think you need to see a neurologist. Not implying something awful, just that is the kind of doctor that deals with both those symptoms. nd293
I've had this when I've had the flu. Real flu, I mean, not bad-cough-feeling-terrible-so-I'll-call-it-the-flu flu. Hurt to brush hair, wear clothes, etc.
Jean in Newcastle
This is how I feel all the time. It is a big symptom in fibromyalgia. (Not saying that it isn't a symptom of other things as well.) Fibro is thought of now as a central nervous system problem.

I do have auto immune/pain issues that are unexplained and could be Fibro.
Outdoorsy Type
How's your b vitamins? I feel that sunburned feeling sometimes, and supplementing for a while always fixes it. What would that look like on a test? I had fairly extensive blood tests done, which revealed "nothing is wrong with me", but I don't remember seeing a test for vitamin B deficiency.
