6packofun Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 I was very tempted there this weekend...but I'm too scared to be a guinea pig with no reviews. lol Quote
Mergath Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Obviously someone is going to have to take one for the team and just buy the thing so the rest of us know if it's worth it or not. ;) 3 Quote
SparklyUnicorn Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Ok ok...I'll buy the damn thing. I want a second one anyway so what the hell. I'll go down there tomorrow and see if they have it. 9 Quote
Guest Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Idk, I think I'll wait until the real deal goes on sale in a few months. Quote
Prairie~Phlox Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 I glanced at the box the other day, I don't think it's the stainless steel pot. Curious to hear the reviews if anyone buys it. I am half tempted just to get a stovetop pressure cooker, I already do stovetop canning, but have never really cooked in one. Quote

SparklyUnicorn Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 OK looking at this some more, I am wondering what the insert material is. The Instant Pot uses stainless steal and I really like that about it. If the Aldi one has a non stick insert, forget it, I don't recommend buying it because I once had a crock pot with such an insert and the coating blistered and pealed off. So it was trash (was a gift). The second concern I have is the seal may need to be replaced at some point in the future (and that would be normal), but will I be able to find replacements for that thing? 1 Quote
abcmommy Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 aldi will take returns so it is almost worth it to give it a whirl but the stainless steel pot is essential IMO 1 Quote

It's a non stick pot. I absolutely do not want that. I'm not even anti non stick (I have non stick pots), but the high temp this thing heats up to is just a sure bet that coating will break down too quickly. BTDT with a crock pot and crock pots don't even get as hot. 1 Quote
ThursdayNext Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Thanks for this info. I was wondering about it too. 1 Quote
Prairie~Phlox Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Sometimes other pots will fit into some of the other electric pressure cookers, but there's no way of knowing for sure if you could find a pot to work. 1 Quote

Although at that rate it's not much of a bargain anymore because the inserts aren't inexpensive. At least not the IP ones. And then I wonder about the seal for the lid. If one had to replace it, how easy is it to find. Doesn't seem worth it really. Quote
Katy Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Teflon in a pressure cooker? That has to be waaaayyy beyond a safe temperature rating for that stuff. Maybe it's ceramic and not teflon? 1 Quote
HomeschoolingHearts&Minds Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 It's a non-stick coating on the insert. Found the instruction manual online here. 1 Quote
