bibiche
Because I cried bitter tears of hopelessness when I saw it. This man is sitting quietly on his mom's porch waiting for her to come home. Minutes later he is being roughed up by the police. The video is a little long, but please try to watch it. Watch it and try to honestly say that our society treats blacks equally. Watch this and tell me we don't need a Black Lives Matters movement.
Guest
I don't know anyone who thinks things are fair and equal in America. I don't think BLM is solving the problem though.
bibiche
I hope people were sacked over this. Actually, the guy was promoted. Then he was put on paid leave. But it looks as if finally they both ended up resigning. https://triad-city-beat.com/2016/09/second-officer-involved-dejuan-yourse-incident-resigns/
bibiche
Wow. I hope Mr Yourse is doing OK after this assault. Me too. I just wanted to pull him out of the middle of that video and give him a hug. The indignity. 😔
MercyA
I couldn't watch it. I watched a little of it. Horrible. That poor man. As others have said--if you're not angry, you're not paying attention. :(

Quit. I hope he's not rehired somewhere tho.

VaKim
Sickening. Just sickening. And what the crap is up with neighbors calling because "somebody was walking around with a shovel" in the daytime???
bibiche
I don't think any one group will be able to solve this, but I thank god BLM was able to help bring this atrocity to the forefront. There are many groups being formed today by black youth, along with others, that are working wonders. They're up against 200 years of racism, implicit and explicit, willful ignorance, a mass media that thrives on soundbites instead of diverse discussion, and politicians who are adept at harnessing anger. I would bet my life that there are people here who would bend over backwards trying to explain away this man's treatment--- his physical body seemed hulk-like, scary, what was he doing just loitering on a porch, if he'd only surrendered, he may have a rap sheet, etc. It's the same old spin. Amplify that by a million, live it personally, and you start understanding the modes of their frustration. So as to the OP's question? No, I don't think any human being can watch this without tears, at least Not any human I care to share this world with. Well lookee here, those poor police officers are not being treated fairly! http://www.greensboro.com/news/local_news/group-says-greensboro-officers-in-yourse-case-not-getting-fair/article_63b52429-42c3-5fb7-be10-15db39f2d621.html?mode=jqm

bettyandbob
This was painful to watch. It was painful before any physical altercation. I have so many thoughts on this, but I don't think I can get the wording right. I am almost 100% certain something like this will never happen to me simply because I am white. I can't imagine the stress of having to look at daily interaction the way a person who is not white must. I don't understand why some people still don't understand why there are large groups who mistrust police--people who do not see police as a valued presence in their community. Anne in CA
It would be detrimental to these large groups to trust the police. Trust is earned. I have a lot of respect for most police officers, but it only takes a few bad apples. And as far as smearing the man's name after their behavior, do they have no shame at all????
