raptor_dad Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 (edited) 8 years old... Both the AAUW report and the right wing think tank response posted above are from 2008. Hardly new... this came out during the the 2006-2008 period when there were several popular books on schools failing boys. Edited October 1, 2016 by raptor_dad Quote
Guest Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 http://www.city-journal.org/html/girl-crazy-10406.html This "report" (?) is dumb. It reads as if it is a competition. In the competition, only one gender can theoretically be well served by public schools, and that one gender SHOULD BE the boys. It's also old as hell in internet time. Quote
Guest Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 How about we rail against the school system without throwing a whole gender under the bus? I bet if we knocked our thinks together, even us gals could come up with something. By 2024, at least. Quote
Bluegoat Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 Yeah, not new. That being said, if I were not in a position to homeschool, I would be much more worried about my son in ps than I would have been about my daughters. And even in later grades, there are a fair number of opportunities for girls that aren't there for boys. A good part of the solution from the POV of educational methods just revolves around appropriate expectations for all kids at various levels, so it's not really all that sex specific. The extra access to programs and scholarships is another questions, I guess. Quote
