fluffybunny Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 I've looked at the Amazon reviews and they say that Marlowe's retelling of the Faust legend is the best. But what do you think of it as a homeschooler, to read aloud with teens, each person taking on a character? Also, how disturbing is it? Thank you Quote
Bluegoat Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 I think many would argue with the "best" bit. But it is probably a good choice for teens. Goethe would be the other contender but I think might be more appreciated at the university level. I think it would be quite a fun thing to do with teens. I wouldn't call it disturbing necessarily, though a sensitive reader should in some ways be disturbed because there are a lot of disturbing psychological truths there - not least that most viewers/readers really like Mephistopheles the best. But it isn't gory or explicit in a way that compares to modern tales of similar type. It does have some zesty bits that will appeal to teens. Quote
