6packofun Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 How does one choose from among all the different kinds? Quote
mamiof5 Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 Listening. Have been wanting to ask this for a while ☺ Quote
Spryte Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 (edited) Everyone's different. My doc, an allopath turned alternative meds doc, recommends switching brands frequently. Right now I'm on Culturelle. And for everyone who's been on abx at some point, or especially when on them, don't forget the S. Boulardii. This does more for my health and immune function than traditional probiotics. But - my gut is a mess, so YMMV. Edited September 29, 2016 by Spryte Quote
Mandamom Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 I have been taking vitacost for ever (about 14 years) and I love their products. I really like their probiotics and highly recommend them. Their prices are great, too. Quote
BrittanyM Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 I've used Bio Kult and been happy with it as well as some cheaper brands. Stronger ones work better for me and I can tell which are cheap and not working by my digestive system. I have the kids and myself on Garden of Life right now. I'm liking their kids probiotic a lot better than the last one I had the kids on. (Hyperbiotic) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
creekland Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 How does one choose from among all the different kinds? I have no idea. After a thread on here I tried Culturelle for 3 months, but saw absolutely no difference whatsoever when on it or quitting it afterward. Whatever you opt to try, I'd do some sort of similar "test" to make sure you aren't wasting money. Different types might work better for some than others. I'm not taking any now, but do eat yogurt once in a while - not all that often really. 1 Quote
Liz CA Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 I am not taking a supplement but eat lots of Kefir and lacto-fermented vegetables. 1 Quote
sbgrace Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 (edited) Epicor is a yeast ferment (beneficial) that has research behind it's ability to enhance immune function. I have a child with immune system issues, and that's what was recommended to us by an integrative med dr. He takes colostrum too (plus Culturelle and Florastor fwiw). solascriptura Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 I'm skeptical of probiotics in pills. I prefer to get mine naturally through fermented foods. Many cultures have used fermentation to preserve foods. Kimchi, sauerkraut, kefir, etc. 2 Quote
ScoutTN Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 We do fermented foods and raw milk. 1 Quote
Guest Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 I am not taking a supplement but eat lots of Kefir and lacto-fermented vegetables. This. The bottled ones are more expensive and less effective all at once. Quote
Lizzie in Ma Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Nexabiotic, shelf stable, reasonably inexpensive, on Amazon 1 Quote
Joules Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 My GI doctor has me on Visbiome for SIBO. It's supposed to be good for IBS and leaky gut. Quote
kandesmom Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 We don't take a supplement, but brew our own Kombucha. 1 Quote
Rosie_0801 Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Kombucha consistently, water kefir and miso sometimes and the very occasional fermentation experimentation. All cheaper than pills. Kombucha (made with Dilmah Rose and French Vanilla tea) is the closest real life has to a magic potion. Quote
HSmomof2 Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Kefir and/or yogurt. I've tried Culturelle and a few others, and they don't settle well with my digestive system. Quote
momacacia Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 What Rosie said. Fermented foods are more powerful and less $$ than a supplement. Quote
Denisemomof4 Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 I had never once noticed any difference when I used probiotics, and I used all the top brands out there. Through my own research I discovered Prescript Assist and SWEAR by it. It has ended my decadeS long battle with candida. Quote
