My oldest is a freshman in college, living in a suite-style dorm with 5 other freshmen. He just texted me: "We had our first cleaning check today. Thank you for teaching me how to clean."

Considering how his room looked before he moved out, I'm thrilled to hear some of it actually sunk in!

yeah - it's always nice when they surprise you.  I have one that if I hadn't seen what __ was capable of, I wouldn't think it could be done.

I can imagine the conversation:

Hall advisor: This room is ... [can't remember the word as it is never used] ... CLEAN! How did you learn to do this?

Son: Uhhhh... My Mom?

Hall advisor: Text her right now and say Thank You!

😄 If I ever hear those words I'll sign off on a parenting job well done!

I haven't heard of that either, except at the end of the year when they are moving out.  (Maybe before Christmas break too?  I can't really remember.)  But, I was definitely impressed that my dd and her 3 roommates made their own plan to try and keep their dorm apt. clean!

We had that when I was in college.  I think they usually checked halfway through and at the end of each semester.  Our suite usually won first prize-- ice cream. :)

ETA: I think they just did it in the freshman and sophomore dorms.  I don't remember it beyond those years.

We were lucky enough to have cleaning people who did the bathroom in our suite. We were all pretty clean, but when we moved into our sorority house the next year, we still had to remind some girls about basic standards of cleanliness. Good for your son and his suite mates!
