Shellydon Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 I know there is a lot of contention around Math-U-See not being 'enough' of a math program. Too shallow, too light etc. I used MUS for my now 9th grader and now 7th grader from Alpha up to Zeta and some of Pre-Alg. They are both taking outsourced class this year. The 7th grader is taking pre-alg. after completing Zeta and is sailing through the course easily. The 9th grader is taking Foerester's Alg. 1 and finding it very doable. The classes are with our co-op twice a week with a very experienced teacher. He asked me what we used because he was impressed with their skills coming into class. Just wanted to share a MUS success story! 14 Quote
wapiti Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 FWIW, the high school levels, algebra 1 and up, of MUS have a reputation of being lighter than standard programs. AFAIK, the reputation of the elementary levels is entirely different. Quote
vaquitita Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 So nice to hear! MUS is working very well for us, but I do second guess myself sometimes because it's always being described as not deep enough compared to Singapore, etc. Quote
coastalfam Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 That is such great feedback! MUS is so doable in our homeschool day compared to the other math we tried, that is is easy for me to think it can't possibly be enough, yet as you have found, my children's knowledge in math is very solid. 1 Quote
Janeway Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 I find MUS to be very thorough right up until algebra. Then things seem to go downhill in the high school levels. I actually like MUS. Good job to your children! Quote
