JumpyTheFrog
What age did your kids begin to go through the adolescent bedtime shift? I mean when they began to fall asleep later even without schedule changes that changed bedtime. Guest
Around 7 or 8 she stopped rising with the sun, but the most major shift happened around 12. That's when the night owl came out. Now she would happily live on a 3am-1pm sleep schedule if we let her.
sbgrace
It switched sometime between 11 to 12 here with both my kids.
jewellsmommy
Around 7 or 8 she stopped rising with the sun, but the most major shift happened around 12. That's when the night owl came out. Now she would happily live on a 3am-1pm sleep schedule if we let her. My dd is on this sleep schedule right now! I am trying to enforce a noon requirement for waking. She is impossible to wake. She manages to get up early (after you yell at her 10,000 times) for church and appts. but she drags all day and still can't get to sleep til 1am or so that night. Dd has always been an extreme night owl. She has never woken early- at any age. Even Christmas mornings, we would get tired of waiting and wake her about 10 or so. In her defense, though, she comes from a long line of night owls on both sides. She says she plans to get a job working midnight shifts when she is older.
Ali in OR
Around 11 for youngest--it's very noticeable with her. Wasn't really noticeable with either eldest (special needs, sleeps more than most people), or middle dd (more of a morning person anyway). lailasmum
11 years old. She's not really tired until about 10pm but happily sleeps 12hours solidly which means she usually wakes up about 10am.
EKS
Agreeing with the others--around 12.
Spryte
Still waiting. DS is 12.75. He gets up with the sun or before it. If left alone, he'd stay up all night and get up at that time still. The doc has him on melatonin. Our eldest son says that DS doesn't sleep, he just lies in bed and vibrates. :D I am waiting for the shift, but no signs yet. Then again, DS has (obviously) sleep issues, so maybe it won't happen here.

J-rap
I don't really remember... When evenings became more fun and they had more to do? I have some kids who naturally wake up very early, and it was harder for them to stay up late until they were really motivated to.
