LisaKinVA
Tests...tests...tests...SAT2, AP, PSAT, ACT, SAT. I think we'll spend about $1k on tests for my older kids this year (blech), but, most of that are for AP exams which (if they do well), should translate to college savings. PSAT is 19 October. We're already registered for that one. I'd like to plan on taking the ACT and SAT this year to (hopefully) get them out of the way -- or have time to take them again, if need be. The first ACT we can take is 22 October the last one we can take is 10 December. The first SAT we can take is 5 November, the last SAT we can take is 21 January. I'm planning on the 3 June SAT stateside for SAT2s, though. Other dates aren't available here. Is there a huge drawback to taking these tests so close together? 19 October, 22 October then 5 November? Or, should I move the ACT to 10 December to give him some breathing room? Thoughts from those who have BTDT?
regentrude
Do they have to do both the ACT and SAT? On one hand, I like somewhat closer so that prep time can double at least somewhat and they don't have to start over again. OTOH, the January test date is good because that gives the Christmas break for prep. I'd let the student decide what they prefer. I liked keeping them bunched together to take advantage of prep -- not having to go back. Taking both initially -- mostly to see if there is one he fares better on. I know the format of both tests is more similar. I'm sad we don't have any spring tests on the schedule here -- because if he needs to retake either one, we'll have to schedule the first one in the fall of his senior year -- when applications are coming due. If you ask DS, it depends on the day.
anne1456
If you do the October ACT and the November SAT you should have scores back in time to register for the December ACT or January SAT if you want to do a retake. I'd push them all together and get it over with.
