whitestavern Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Looking for ideas on somewhat easy things to make with wild grapes. We have a lot, probably at least 10 pounds. I don't want to make jam because it takes so much sugar and we try to limit that. The only other recipes I've found after a quick internet search is wine, which seems involved :) Please chime in with any ideas you may have or links to recipes you've tried and enjoyed. TIA! Quote
Plink Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Wine and jelly are the best uses ;) Grape juice is easy - just boil the grapes, and strain through cheesecloth. It requires some sugar, but not as much as jelly. We like to mix ours with seltzer to make our own grape soda. Quote
whitestavern Posted September 12, 2016 Author Posted September 12, 2016 Thanks! Mixing with seltzer sounds kind of yummy. When do you add the sugar and approximately how much? Or do you have a recipe? I appreciate any help you can provide :) Quote
Plink Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 I use about 3/4 cup sugar per gallon of juice (I'm low-sugar too), but when we serve it to guests I always double the sugar. The easiest way is to pour the juice through the strainer and then move it directly back onto the stovetop and add the sugar while it is still hot. Another method is to mix up some simple syrup and just add it as you need it. DH swears that he can mix in straight sugar to the cold juice, but his cups are always crunchy on the bottom, so I don't recommend that method. Quote
