WahM Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 Hello, My daughter is in 3rd grade and has used wwe for writing from the start. I love the program, but I feel she needs help learning how to compose sentences. Is there a program I can use as a supplement to wwe3 for learning how to better form sentences or a program I should completely switch to that would help with this? Thanks! Quote
HomeAgain Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 There are several. Daily 6 Traits Writing might help. We're using How To Write A Super Sentence here, but mostly it's just a single sentence activity starting with a basic subject/predicate, and instructions on how to build from that. Very repetitive, I think every page is the same format. MasterBooks brought back Writing Strands and that goes much deeper - with WS 2 the student starts out writing a basic phrase: The pen. It is then built on to add details about color, shape, position, etc. From there, the student learns how to write steps in order (observations, memories) and finally create a coherent paragraph. Any of these three only take minutes for each exercise, though Writing Strands does get progressively longer. Quote
Miss Tick Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 You might like Killgallon Sentence Composing. They use models from books you know and change them up and use them as models. We didn't have time to finish the book, but I saw lasting benefit. Quote
WahM Posted September 10, 2016 Author Posted September 10, 2016 Thanks for the recommendations! I'll look into these tonight. Quote
