morningcoffee Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 Is it possible to do this without the dvd or distance learning option? We would have the investigations lab dvd. Would I need to teach from the TM or is most of the information in the student pages? I'm looking at the third edition since the lab dvd hasn't been updated to match the fourth edition. Quote
monalisa Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 This might not be helpful, but I have my dd doing the online course now and it is the 3rd edition. I also bought a used copy of the TM. I actually use it a lot with grading her work (I hate having to download the online TM pages), and planning what I'm going to have her do or not do of the online assignments. If I was going to teach it, I wouldn't try it without the TM. I think the TM with the lab video would make it doable. The textbook is meaty, but it obviously doesn't have all the teacher helps and answer keys for the section reviews, lab pages, etc. I found my used TM copy for less than $20 (it is a little worn) on Second Harvest curriculum, www.usedhomeschoolbooks.com. I've had good experience buying used BJU books from them. 1 Quote

I plan on buying the TM but I was wondering if I need to schedule in a sort of teaching session each day where I "teach" from the TM and then assign independent work or whether I would just use the TM for grading (I know your situation is different since you use DL). Peaceful Isle Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 We did it last year with the online teacher videos. It was very intense and my dd learned a ton. 1 Quote
Mrs Twain Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 BJU usually has a special sale around November or December where you can buy a year's access to the distance larning online program for $99. The access is from Jan 1 -Dec 31, I believe. Also you have to buy books separately. 1 Quote

Well, not S&E... but we are using Life science this year with the student texts/workbooks, teacher manual, and investigations DVD—all 3rd edition. It's perfect for us! I don't think there's any need to the online or full DVD course. My little man is loving science. He's enjoying learning... and retaining it, too. 1 Quote
Mrs Twain Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 P.s to my previous post-- $99 DLO course + textbook is all I bought. Mrs. Vick is such a fabulous teacher. Maybe think about it if it is not too much more expensive than what you would be paying. 1 Quote

I've heard so many great things about Mrs Vick over the years but unfortunately we're not in an area where we can get BJU's DLO  Quote
