908874 Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 Due to unforseen circumstances my 6 year old will need to start public school in January. He is technically first grade this year. I guess I'm looking both for advice and reassurance. Is there something I should be extra concerned with? He reads fine for his age, he does math fine for his age. He's generally smart and good natured. I think he will be fine, but I do not "make" him write a whole lot. I was wondering if this is the area I should become more firm in... Any advise would be appreciated. Quote
wendyroo Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 Is it not an option for him to go now? Personally, I think starting at the beginning of the year with the rest of his classmates would be a bigger advantage to him than any prep work you could do with him over the next few months. 908874 Posted September 9, 2016 Author Posted September 9, 2016 Yes, I've been thinking about it. School here started a month ago... Quote
HomeAgain Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 I would have him start now. A month isn't a long time - the teacher has just finished assessments and review and they should be getting into new stuff. It would be much easier to adapt to their pace and expectations now rather than halfway through the year. 2 Quote
Tanaqui Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 I would also have him start now, since he has to go anyway in January. Quote
908874 Posted September 10, 2016 Author Posted September 10, 2016 Thanks - that's all the push I needed. That was what I was thinking. He starts Monday. I am a little sad, but surprisingly I do NOT feel GUILTY. lol 1 Quote
