klmama Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Recently, I ran out of the mega-sized bottle of Dawn dishwashing liquid I've used for years as a laundry grease remover, and the new Dawn I purchased doesn't seem to work at all. What's with that??? What do you use to get grease stains out of laundry? Quote
JFSinIL Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Dampen and rub a Fels Naptha bar of soap on it. Works for us. Quote
Pawz4me Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Dawn works fine for us. I always buy the original blue version. 3 Quote
heartlikealion Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 I never thought to use it on laundry, but I am partial to the blue! Quote
Cinder Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 I'm still using Dawn, preferably blue. I do let it sit for a few hours at least, usually overnight. Maybe that helps? 1 Quote
Erica in OR Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 I also use Dawn, but have been transitioning into using Zote laundry soap, the pink bar. Erica in OR Quote
barnwife Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Whatever liquid detergent we currently have. But, you have to apply the detergent to the inside of the garment (the back side of the stain). Putting it directly on the stain forces it deeper into the fabric. Quote
kbutton Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 (edited) Lestoil. It has a strong smell, but it's great for oily/greasy stuff. You might want to wash a second time to remove the odor of the Lestoil if it lingers. You can't pretreat stains with it--you have to put it on just before you wash. If you pretreat, it will leave it's own spot, but you can remove that by putting my Lestoil on it--just make sure you completely cover the spot you made the first time. KatieJ Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 I have used and loved Amway Prewash spray for over 25 years. It is expensive, but I figure if it rescues one item of clothing per can, it's paid for itself. Quote
FriedClams Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Blue dawn mixed half and half with vinegar. Works for laundry, soap scum.... Awesome stuff. I recently watched My Big Fat Greek Wedding... You try Windex?? :-) 1 Quote
wendy not in HI Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 I've had good luck using ammonia. Quote

My MIL is legendary for getting out stains, and this is her go-to when nothing else works. I usually try Dawn and Resolve/Spray and Wash first because most items I've used it on have taken several additional washings to remove the Lestoil odor. Quote
klmama Posted September 5, 2016 Author Posted September 5, 2016 Those of you who use the original blue Dawn, where do you find it? The stores here only seem to have the new 2x stuff, and that hasn't touched the same type of food grease that my old Dawn got out on the first try. Quote

My local restaurant supply sells "Dawn Pot & Pan Detergent Liquid." It comes in gallon containers, but it lasts forever. Erica in OR Quote
