SKL Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Seems my kids are past the age when they are supposed to read x minutes per night, LOL. I am curious how much most parents ask their kids to read, assuming they aren't the type to read much for fun. I'm working on balancing the trade-off between all the various things kids need to do in the evening. Seems reading should still be one of those things, like it or not. :) X chapters per night? X minutes? X book(s) per week? Or would you leave it up to them, even if they chose zero? Quote
Guest Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 (edited) We just had them continue. Public school has a lot of review built in, so they would just dash off the seatwork and read. My older read 1.5 hrs daily in school while teacher was remediating or in study hall or with a sub. At home I would hand him interesting nonfic. Edited September 4, 2016 by Heigh Ho Quote
AggieMama Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 I would have the kids read 30 minutes a day during the week and an hour a day on the weekend. You might want to alternate between self-chosen and assigned reading. Quote
