Hi I'm a homeschooling my PG (I guess AL on this board) 6 year old son.  We just started 1st grade about a month ago.  We're doing Beast slowly and SM 3A and SOTW (and the class at Athena on it), finishing MCT Island, and a lot of history work.  So I think we have a lot in common with a lot of the people on this board except I'm a dad who is doing the homeschooling.

I don't really have a question, but was wondering if there were any other homeschooling dads out there.  There are apparently so few that when you search "homeschooling dads" the main pages that come up at for how dads and can support moms who are primarily homeschooling.

Maybe there's nothing gendered about homeschooling, so maybe it doesn't matter, but I thought I'd check if there were any other homeschooling dads out there.  But I have no clue what I want from that.

Of course, maybe I'm wrong and there are tons of dads who homeschool out there or maybe it really doesn't matter (I actually found this to be true when I primarily identified as a stay at home dad).

Hi and Welcome!

There are a few homeschooling dads on here, also a few afterschooling dads. Hopefully some will chime in! I imagine the proportion of homeschooling dads to the overall population of homeschooling parents is similar to that of stay at home dads to the overall stay at home parent population.

I don't think there is anything particularly gendered about homeschooling, any more than there is anything particularly gendered about teaching as a profession. Jump right in, this is a diverse and interesting group of people and we love discussing kids and education and life :)

This reminds me that Gil hasn't been around in a while. Or have I just not seen him posting?

Welcome, Francis! I'm the SAHP, and the primary homeschooling parent. However, my husband works from home and informally covers a lot of topics with DD as well as often having a read aloud with her going separate from our family evening read aloud. He has also done some introductory computer coding with her. When he finishes the degree he is currently working on, the plan is for him to fully take over foreign language instruction.

DW and I split duties, but she really does the lion's share of the teaching.  I lay out curriculum and rough course plans, and only assist with daily activities.  She preps option "B" plans and manages the day-to-day, and assists with syllabi, etc.

Yes!! Where is Gil? I miss reading his posts.

Welcome, OP. I'm Monique. I homeschool my 7 year old son, Sacha, in most subjects, but coax my husband into handling a lot of the science and programming. I'm a humanities girl, who cannot put together IKEA furniture, with a STEM kid. Dh is a mechanical engineer by training.

My husband was a SAHD until DD was 6 when life changed, and he went back to work too. We both work full time (with flexible, at-home schedules), and I'm largely responsible for stuff now, but he handles current events, and we do a family non-fiction bookclub and weekly science readings and labs together. He brings her to all activities and handles everything around the house. He's never been one to post much on forums.

Well, since there are 10 replies all from moms, here I am. I actually split the schooling pretty evenly with my wife (stay at home mom / student). I work, but I'll finish up any lessons that they didn't get to while I was at work. On Tuesday/Thursday, my wife goes to school (finishing her masters in english education) and I work from home / take care of school time those days. We also do special things on the weekend with just Dad. We all go to the library together etc.

My DH doesn't post on here, but he is a homeschooling dad. We split the duties. This is our first year homeschooling; after 2+ years afterschooling. He works from home on T&Th and I do MWF. He teaches Physical Science, Spanish, Bible Study, and History and assists with Reading.

DW and I split the homeschooling duties. It's our first year after years of after-schooling. So far everything is going as we've hoped. I'm enjoying the additional time with my kids.
