We have Save A Lot, WalMart and an expensive local owned place.   I like and mostly shop at Save A Lot.

They have good sales.  Check the sale paper every week (it's online and have ads in the store).

Fresh vegetables look good.  Every once in a while stuff will look bad but I find that at any store.

Meat always looks good.

Their breakfast sausage has great flavor but LOTS more fat.  I still use it but mostly where I brown it like ground beef and add to fried potatoes or sausage casserole etc.  I just make sure to let it drain really good.

I like almost all their brands.  Most of our canned goods are their brands too.

If they have an excess of something fixing to go out of date they will mark it down like 1/2 price.  I have gotten 2 liter drinks, cheese, real butter, chips etc. for super low prices.

We had a Save a lot in my last town.... it was okay for some things. The veggies there were better quality/fresher but that could have just been the store.  They had good prices on meat, their store brands were kind of gross. I prefer Aldi's but would shop their sales.

I have to drive 12 miles one way for a Save A Lot, 12 miles another way for a Walmart, and 12 miles a third way for an Aldi (we are in a rural triangle between 3 places) and I chose Aldi most of the time...more convenient and lower prices.

I will use Walmart for what Aldi does not carry or Save A Lot if I need something then and we are in that town.

Our Sav-A-Lot is a bunch of low-quality, processed junk. When they have national brands, they seem cheaper than at other grocery stores, but the package size is smaller. So they really aren't cheaper. I much prefer Aldi to SAL.

That's exactly how I would describe our SAL.  Our town of about 20,000 people has 5 grocery stores and SAL is the lowest quality by far. Interesting that it doesn't seem like that in other towns.  Also interesting is that SAL is owned by the same company that owns Cub Foods, which we also have in our town and dd works for. In our town, you would NEVER guess the two stores are run by the same company.
