Melissa in Australia
We have received a letter in the mail telling us that we (DH and I ) have been nominated for a chairman's award for outstanding achievement in fostering. I am traveling down to Melbourne for the ceremony tomorrow. I didn't even know that there was such an award.
Faithr
Congrats, Melissa and dh!!!! That's wonderful! And Jean, I so appreciate your faithfulness in always posting this thread everyday. Even while at camp! Thank you! Yesterday turned out to be crazy. The workmen/plumbers were here making lots of noise and turning water off and on. Then my son's first day of fall semester at the community college turned out to require me there a lot. I spent a lot of time waiting in line, driving back and forth, filling out papers, etc. And then I kept trying to work on the Latin curriculum for our co-op but either my internet or their website kept going wonky. Grrr. And second morning of waking up too early, 4:00 a.m. And my sheltie has taken to peeing in the house! We've had her ten years and she's never done anything like this. She doesn't seem to be sick. I think it is a combination of things: we went on vacation and left her with my oldest married daughter who was running in between her apt and our house; had her own only partially housebroken dog her, then the renovation took away the sheltie's regular place she sleeps. She loved sleeping on the tile floor in the powder room but it is all ripped up now. I think it is too much and she's peeing because she's upset. Does that sound plausible? Today: 1) Figure out how to deal with peeing sheltie 2) Talk to computer person at co-op to figure out how to upload quizzes 3) Start up breakfast school and Latin again with my own two (I think we'll just go over memory work and read the Latin story of the last lesson we did) 4) Stick to my low carb diet (which I did not do yesterday!) 5) Make the dinner I was supposed to yesterday (life got in the way and we all just ate leftovers/scrounge in the fridge) 6) Watch the little guy while his mom goes to class this evening
Pink and Green Mom
Way to go, Melissa!! You can tell from your posts that you pour your heart and soul into your foster children. I have such admiration and respect for what you do. Faithr, we have a similar dog issue going on here but I think our dog may be sick. He sometimes pees in the house if there is a big thunderstorm and no one is here to comfort him. He did so on the floor of our closet. Sigh, it absolutely STINKS (that is why I think he is sick - the smell is not normal, it smells like rotting fish) and no amount of enzymes and Rug Doctor machines have been able to get rid of the smell. I really think we will need to replace the flooring in there. -coffee -cancel an online class for youngest -get oldest to school by 7:15 -call the exterminator -call the vet -go to the dry cleaner -get 5 morning subjects done with youngest -run dishwasher -laundry (honestly at least 5 loads, probably more) XXX -get 5 afternoon subjects done with youngest -straighten up room by room for cleaning people tomorrow -exercise (1 hour), shower, get ready -pick up oldest from football practice (6 pm) -wring hands while making sure oldest is doing his homework and working ahead because of Thursday night football game -dinner (DH out of town. Probably just burgers on the grill and salad) Sheesh. I am exhausted already. Edited August 23, 2016 by Pink and Green Mom

MysteryJen
Congratulations, Melissa and dh!! You are an inspiration. Faithr, our corgi will pee in the house during upsets, like kids moving out or major disruptions to routinue. It is very temporary and purposeful (it is always in the same place right by my chair in my study). But at 10 years old, I would take him to the vet, just to check things out. Jean, I hope you feel better. Swim team started last night and I am still very unhappy with the team, but the kids are fine and having fun. So I don't reallly get a vote at all. We will see how this season goes. I have the sinking feeling of despair over the months of dealing with it all. To do: Finish coffee and paper get boys going on school daily chores library clean pantry laundry jen things practice/homework/dinner Have a great day!

MysteryJen
Why are you unhappy with the team? Did you guys switch? We didn't switch even though I wanted to during the mean girl saga last year. It has mostly worked itself out, but dd2 was blamed for standing up for herself and therefore she was blamed for "causing the problem." The coaching is fine, but adminstration is terribly lacking (our team more than doubled in size last year) and the coaches have serious control issues which hamper their hiring of help, The parents are the biggest problem. Very wealthy and entitled, they are used to their kids getting all the advantages, so we have tons of parents using private trainers and stroke coaches. They do this secretly, becaused the coaches don't like it, but also can do nothing to stop it and they like fast swimmers. And definitely have their favorites which makes parents upset and more anxious to improve their kid's performance. It is a vicious cycle. Secret trainers and stroke coaches make for slightly faster swimmers and then other parents think that is the way to go. We have had high level success on the team and no one believes we didn't use outside help. We didn't. Frankly, we can't afford it. The worst is that everyone tells me about their trainers, etc. and I want to scream "are you insane?" But I don't, just say, "we never did that." Seriously, Olympic Trials cuts and a huge DI scholarship. No outside trainers and coaches. But they don't believe me.

SKL
Hi guys. Back from the Monday conference. We drove there & back (6 hours each way) and got home in the wee hours of Tuesday (just us adults). The kids are with family and will return today. I was kind of pumped on Monday because I accomplished a bunch of continuing education credit, positive PR, and a pile of other work (I was on the computer most of the time) all at the same time. It did kind of wear me out though. :p This morning I slept in past 10am. I was hoping I'd have a bit of a breather since I caught up on a lot of work yesterday, but now several clients are saying they want to do stuff early so they can take off around Labor Day. So back to the grind. Today is also the last day of "summer vacation." The list: Check in with the critters who were left alone for 1.5 days. [done] Catch up on sleep. [done] Coffee up. [done] Fix internet issue. [done] Work. [done] A little reading. [done] A little exercise. [done] Get the house back in order from the sleepover. [done] Couple loads of laundry (kids' bedding). [done] Pack the girls' school backpacks for tomorrow. Some work with the girls. [done] Compile AHG newsletter. Family TKD. [done] Girls swim & shower. [done] Walmart run for gym / play shoes. [done] Pick out school clothes for tomorrow. [done] Kids to bed. [done] Replace missing screw in kid's glasses. [done] Work. SKL
I think my biggest accomplishment of the day was getting that tiny microscopic screw into my kid's glasses. I have to admit the bread twistie tie that had been holding them together was not really fashionable enough for school. :P Made it to TKD, yay, and the girls swam and I walked after that. Stopped at the library for the audiobook for the next book club meeting, and started listening to it. Got some cute but low-value shoes at WalMart for gym. Showed the kids their other new stuff. Got tomorrow's outfits all ready. I still need to pack their bookbags, put together the AHG newsletter, and get some more work done.
