Honestly? Margarita at the dermatologist office did the best job with the least amount of discomfort. Nothing OTC ever worked here.

If you let them be they will continue to get bigger and will only leave bigger pores when you finally do extract them (my husband had blackheads that were never treated as a teen). None of the products we have tried have reduced his pores and he has to extract the blackheads weekly.

Would love to hear also if something has worked for others. I can already tell my oldest son is going to have the same skin type and he will not let me extract them either.

I have a tool like this. Every now and then I run it along my problem areas and it helps. I used to use Biore strips but they seemed to miss so much, and this is much more economical.

Biore Pore Strips might be a good way to go. My daughter has sensitive skin and she did fine with these. It's also likely to be more acceptable to a kid than mom going the extraction route.

I find that the extraction is easiest immediately following a warm bath or shower. Even 20 minutes later, things start to get more difficult.

Yes, if you do nothing they will just get bigger.  Extracting is certainly fastest and easiest IMHO!  Would she let a facialist do it?  They will steam her first, so they come out fairly easy usually.

 

My dd had a friend in elementary school who had a giant blackhead right in the middle of her nose.  I could hardly look at her I was so compelled to go push it out!

Have you tried one of the mild salicylic acid scrubs? Sometimes what is needed is something to move along the exfoliation. Soap and a washcloth may not be enough.

 

I have EXTREMELY sensitive skin. I run the hot water in the shower and use one of the Neutrogena ones on my nose. No more black heads!
