I'm in a pickle. My daughter is 9 and she is 5'0" and 110 pounds. She has a larger stomach and the kids sizes are just not cutting it. We just got back from the store and she tried multiple 14/16 pants on and XL shorts for kids and nothing fit. She is getting so discouraged 😢 Any suggestions for clothing??

Did I you try any girls plus sizes? Old Navy, Sears and Penney's carries them as well as Lands End on line.

I'm 4'11" and 126 (still carrying around baby weight) and I can almost squeeze into a women's size 4 at Old Navy. At my comfortable 110, I wear a 2. They have short sizes which are still a bit long, but they should work. I think if you stick to their basic tshirts you should be able to find stuff that isn't too grownup looking for her.

My similarly-sized kiddos are having better luck shopping the women's section. Walmart had some cute soccer shorts in the ladies section that were a hit with my girls this summer (size small). Same with shirts -- my older DD wears small or medium in ladies.

As far as dresses, we struggle to find a flattering style for youngest, who is round around the middle. Lands End has a short-sleeved, high waist dress that is this DD's uniform when it comes to dressy clothes. They are sized very generously (this child has outgrown kids 14/16, but can wear the Lands End dress in a 12 or 14). We pair it with a cute jean jacket and leggings in winter. Like this (I buy them used):

ETA: be careful about the waistline. We've found the empire waist flattering to round tummies (flares and conceals)...but LE also has a drop-waist and a style that has a waist right across the belly. NOT flattering (which we found after buying several online mistaking them for the other...)

Good luck finding something that works.

Move up to juniors. My dd is 5'1 and a similar wt. and wears a 5 short in juniors. She is 16 so may be a different build, but getting out of kid sizes may still be a solution for your dd. Hollister carries this size and frequently sells thier jeans for $25.

Buckle is a great store for finding the right fit, but the prices are really high. They will alter the length for free if you buy jeans.

American eagle super stretch jeggings in short. Look like jeans, stretch like leggings and work for a round tummy. These are still DD15s go-to jeans.

She does a lot of old navy yoga pants and exercise leggings. The 3/4 cropped is ankle length on her. Flare yoga pants I can hem (cut off three inches!) and they still look good.

Shirts she does long tshirts or hoodies that look good over leggings. Skirts are easier to find than dresses, but we did find two cute empire waist dresses at Kohls this spring in the women's department.
