Okay, this is what I need.  Any suggestions, Hive?

-Storage for 8 toothbrushes.  Willing to buy two.

-Countertop, not wall mounted.

-Needs to come apart if it's enclosed, and it needs to be able to go in the dishwasher.

-Needs to be able to hold the toothbrushes with the larger toddler sized handles as well as the small toothbrush heads for electric toothbrushes.  (And that's also why I might buy two.)

-Doesn't necessarily need to hold the toothpaste too.

What about something wall mounted using suction cups? That's what I have in my bathrooms. They have large suction cups to adhere supposedly to the wall,  but I keep them on the slick surface of the mirror. I have one that has toothbrush holes but the holes are flexible, designed for all sizes of toothbrushes. I can't find one on Amazon like it, unfortunately. The other ones I have are actually containers that are big enough for a toothbrush holder cup. Those are the ones in my bathroom for DH and me.

Would this work?

Oops.  You said some on the counter.  I grew up in a big family.  We had many girls sharing one bathroom.  We had one 4 hole holder mounted on the wall  And then another cup on the sink that held several more.  You just have remember to wash the cup out when you clean the bathroom.

we use an old yogurt container. We use big one, because there are only 4 of us and it can also hold the toothpaste and the floss.  It can certainly go in the dishwasher and we replace it frequently.

How about a couple of mason jars?  Each jar can hold a couple toothbrushes & toothpaste without touching & you can get craft (or not) with labelling whose toothbrush goes where.  You can use smaller ones for the kid tootbrushes.

I actually have two of that exact item on the wall in my downstairs bathroom.  They work really well for toothbrushes and have held up well for over two years.  (I also have a third one on a wall next to the counter where we charge our devices, to keep the charging cords off the floor because it's next to the door, and that's where wet gets tracked in in the winter; they work great for that too.)  But in our new upstairs bathroom, DH really wanted something that wasn't wall mounted at all, and we did purposely put in a big countertop.

I don't know why I didn't think of mason jars or tumblers.  That would work just fine.  I couldn't find any tiny mason jars for mine and DH's brush heads, so I bought a little shot glass, which holds them perfectly.  I also bought two glass tumblers, one for the older children's brushes and toothpaste, and one for the little ones' brushes and toothpaste.  They look different from any of our other glassware, so it'll be easy to tell that they belong upstairs when I run them through the dishwasher, and if they break, they're cheap to replace.  So, thanks, Hive, for the suggestions to keep it simple!

I love the mason jar idea!

We used a sturdy bathroom cup, made out of thick porcelain with a wide base.

The trick of course was remembering whose toothbrush was whose.  We solved that problem with electrical tape.  It comes in many colors and is water proof.  Each person had a color and I wrapped a strip of it on the handle of each toothbrush.  One person was always orange, another was always green, etc.  It's the only way we could remember which one was ours!
