I can't speak to UCD, but the college admissions people I've talked to said that they don't look back at previous applications when they are filling slots for a particular year. People turn down colleges all the time and then decide later to go there.

 

My oldest was weighing starting at the 4-year versus a 2+2 program with guaranteed admission, so we asked that very question. Not an issue at all. He ended up with the 2+2 and is very happy.

 

Just watch the transfer policies. The 2+2 programs have become so popular here that it's getting harder to be a regular transfer student. The guaranteed admission students get first preference. I also found that getting everything lined up for the 2+2 is much harder because the local community college doesn't offer all of the classes he needs. So he's taking those online and transferring them into his local degree program.
