stephanier.1765 Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 I've been sick with a stomach thing for a few days. Vomiting the first and nausea the last two so I've basically stuck to the BRAT diet. Now, despite still having stomach pains, I am craving veg. I think I might make some rice for dinner with chicken broth for a little protein and some kind of vegetable diced really, really, small. What would you recommend as the safest one to try? Thanks. Quote
Farrar Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 I'd do zucchini or summer squash just because it's simple and in season. Or maybe green peas maybe cauliflower. Many other veggies are sort of strong, at least for me. 1 Quote
Elizabeth 2 Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 Well cooked carrots, then pureed are highly recommended for irritable bowel disease since they are easily digested and absorbed that way. Cook them in a broth, but don't include celery, onions or garlic in the puree. They are too stringy. 2 Quote
zoobie Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 Zucchini and sweet potatoes tend to be less likely to be allergenic, which makes me think they'd be gentle on a sore tummy. You want to take the skin off and cook the stuffing out of whatever you try. The less fiber, the better. Canned green beans maybe? That's recommended post diverticulitis and for dogs with upset stomachs. 1 Quote
FaithManor Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 Small cubed tomatoes, diced carrots, and a few sweet peas in a mild broth with salt since your eletrolytes are probably off. 1 Quote
stephanier.1765 Posted August 16, 2016 Author Posted August 16, 2016 Thanks all. Turns out that even though I'm hungry my tummy still hurts too much for food. These ideas will be perfect for tomorrow. Quote
Melissa in Australia Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 For an upset stomach my mother always gave us grated apple sprinkled thickly with cinnamon. It really helps. I do it with my kids and it helps them as well. If you are making some chicken broth I would recommend grating the vegatables instead of dicing. 1 Quote
MEmama Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 Our go to after a stomach bug is veggie broth or miso with tiny cubes of tofu and carrots. Very gentle, yet provides a good base for healing. 1 Quote
FaithManor Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 If you can send someone to the store for a piece of fresh ginger root, grate, steep in hot water, and sip. It usually helps a lot with both stomach pain and nausea. 1 Quote
