ReadingMama1214 Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 Dd hates skorts. She prefers cotton dresses or skirts. I have several pairs of skorts from the Children's Place. If I want to cut the shorts out is there any specific way I should do it? Will it cause damage to the skirt? Quote
Ravin Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 The main issue is modesty; it will leave the skirt unlined and potentially see-through. Most skirts nowadays have a built in "slip" layer to avoid this risk. If it's thick enough material that it's not transparent, this isn't an issue, of course. I would just cut it out, taking care to leave a little bit of fabric outside the seams where it connects to the skirt so that you don't accidentally cut into a seam. Use pinking shears if it's woven material, straight scissors if it's knit. Quote
MEmama Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 Just see where the seam is. Some are straightforward, others not so much. Quote
Dmmetler Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 My experience is that skorts are often short enough that they would need shorts under them if they didn't come with them, so I'd look at that first. No sense in going through the work only to find out that they're not really wearable. 1 Quote

I haven't really found solid cotton skirts without shorts recently. Dd is still in a 3T/4T so we're stuck buying toddlers. Quote

Dd is pretty short (37in) at 4.75yo. They're cotton skorts from children's place. Long enough that I'd let her skip leggings if they were a dress. It's hard because she won't wear a lot of things. No jeans, stiff pants, stiff skirts/dresses, most shorts, and now leggings. So I'm trying to make what we have work without Investing in an entire new wardrobe Quote
