Hilltopmom
We're on our second refurbished Galaxy 5 from ting & neither has worked at all. Not impressed. Can't decide if we should just get a brand new one, don't really have the $ right now but oldest needs a phone before starting DE classes in a week. Ugh.

Hilltopmom
From Ting. Where I'm hoping to use their service.
hjffkj
Never got one from ting. But I've gotten 3 refurbished moto g phones from an eBay seller. The first wouldn't charge so they sent another one and gave me a free phone cover for the inconvenience. The second and 3rd have worked wonderfully. Maybe Ting doesn't do a good enough job testing their used.phones before selling. I'd find a refurbished from a better seller
Hilltopmom
We're trying one more, they promised me 2 day shipping. If that has issues, might just not go with ting at all.
Lanny
Probably better to purchase from another source. We have a neighbor who has worked for a Cellular Provider for many years. He's an Electronic Engineer. When I asked him (about 6 months ago) which GSM phones connect best to the towers, he said Samsung and Motorola. If you are on a GSM network, I'd try one of those brands. In general, purchasing something that is "Used" or "Remanufactured", if it was actually tested by a human, may be less problematic than something that is "Brand New". That is certainly my experience buying Used and Refurbished Laptops and may also be true of cell phones. If an actual human has tested the phone, it should work properly.
cjzimmer1
We just bought the brand new moto E from Ting for about $75. I activated it on Ring Plus because the service was cheaper but I thought that was pretty affordable for a NEW phone and knowing I wouldn't have to worry about issues with it.
Lanny
OP the "Refurbishing" process of TING sounds like it consisted of them cleaning the 2 phones you received with a Baby Wipe and sending the phones to you. That is not "Refurbishing" At the least, the phones should have been thoroughly tested, by someone who knows what they are doing. I would suggest that you purchase from another source. If the phones are like that when you get them, what will their service be like if you need to send the phone back for service? The phones in our house are Samsung, Motorola and Lenovo and all work without any issues. Lenovo owns Motorola Mobility. My Stepson says the Lenovo phone my wife bought for him is exactly like her Motorola Turbo G. Try to buy from a reputable supplier. From your experience, it doesn't sound like Ting is a reputable supplier of used phones. GL
Lizzie in Ma
Highly recommend either of the new amazon phones, we got the Moto G for youngest for $149 and she didn't bother to link it with an amazon account and oldest bought the Blu R1HD for $60 and loves it. They are both Android. They are Prime subscriber only phones but holy cow you can't beat those prices! I will never buy another Samsung, thought I had them for many years. https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_p_n_feature_browse-b_0?fst=as%3Aoff&rh=n%3A2335752011%2Cn%3A7072561011%2Ck%3Amoto+g%2Cp_76%3A2491146011%2Cp_n_feature_browse-bin%3A14759296011&keywords=moto+g&ie=UTF8&qid=1471433994&rnid=14759295011 Before the Amazon phones, I bought an Alcatel for myself and I absolutely love it. It was $149, straight up stock Android. https://www.amazon.com/ALCATEL-OneTouch-Idol-Unlocked-Smartphone/dp/B0118EWIXS/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1471434118&sr=1-1&keywords=alcatel
Alessandra
Gazelle has an excellent reputation. The phone I got from them several years ago looked new and still works perfectly. They have excellent customer service and a money back guarantee. Not the cheapest place, but worth it, imho. ETA If you are flexible about carriers, check out ATT GoPhone. Many new phones under $50. If there is a store nearby, you can pick one up. I was curious. Checked out a few random iPhones at Ting. Ting's prices are VERY high, even more than Gazelle. Also I did not see GBs listed, weird. Catalytic
We have been throught several Galaxy S5s, and I will not be buying anymore Samsung phones. I seriously do not understand the hype over them, quite frankly, they've been the worst phones we've owned. We never had issues like this with our Motorolas
