Dmmetler Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 DD loves making chocolates and has a lot of candy molds, and is planning a kickoff party in a few weeks for the animal club she's organizing. We already have sweet stuff covered. Could DD use her molds to make animal shaped mini cheese balls or something? Quote

Guest Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 More seriously, would something like little shaped meatballs works? Quote
Dmmetler Posted August 14, 2016 Author Posted August 14, 2016 I'm not sure anything cooked after molding would work because some of variations in thickness-for chocolate, it's no problem, but I don't want burnt meat at the edges or uncooked in the middle. We may have to experiment a bit. Quote
alisoncooks Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Would something like chicken salad (finely chopped) or egg salad work? To serve with crackers. (Assuming your kiddo isn't as picky as mine; my kids would not touch the stuff.) I think the cheese balls are a great idea! Quote
Cecropia Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 You could try this: flatten out chilled cream cheese between two pieces of plastic wrap. It will have to be pretty thin to work in a candy mold. Line a mold with a little piece of plastic wrap. Cut a little section of the cream cheese to fit the mold; press in. Spread over a thin layer of pesto. Cover with another layer of cream cheese. Chill well and lift out the plastic wrap to unmold, carefully invert onto serving dish and peel off wrap, serve with crackers. This would be a mini variation of a cheese spread that I make with multiple cheese & pesto layers, which I press into a small shallow jello mold or shaped dish. Quote
ktgrok Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 I think cheese balls would be perfect. Cheddar, cream cheese with chives, goat cheese, whatever. Quote

I have tears in my eyes from laughing so hard. DH is going to love this. Jello and fish? Who knew? But I have GOT to make the cute little mashed potato and meatloaf igloos. My smallboys would probably love those. 1 Quote

Dmmetler Posted August 14, 2016 Author Posted August 14, 2016 I wonder if cheese straws would hold their shape if I molded them, unmolded them, and baked them? Quote

Jaybee Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 (edited) I wonder if cheese straws would hold their shape if I molded them, unmolded them, and baked them? That's what I was thinking. I have rolled out the cheese straw dough and used a small round cookie cutter to make cheese crackers. (They were great.) ETA: Those links kinda make me feel sick to my stomach. :P Edited August 15, 2016 by Jaybee Quote
