frugalmamatx Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 I just got an essential oil diffuser. So far I have spearmint, peppermint, and pink grapefruit essential oils to use in it. Not looking exactly for the health benefits - more of making my house smell good as it's perpetually stale air since we don't have a/c. But if they help with stress / depression I'm all for it. So - what are some of your favorite scents to use around the house? Needs to be available for purchase on Amazon. Quote
Guest Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 I am totally not sold on them for health benefits, but I have gathered quite a bit for making my house smell nice. :) I have settled on Eden's Garden, which you can buy on Amazon, although I do prefer to buy through their website - they have free shipping. My favorite scents are citrus ones. Lemon, Lime, Orange, Lemongrass and I like to mix those with light earth (wood) smells - cedarwood, copaiba, and bergamot. Also, Eden's Garden has a coffee and vanilla absolute which I LOVE to diffuse! I stay far, far away from Ylang Ylang and any blend with it. Quote
cjzimmer1 Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 I too use Eden's Garden. I really like the smell of Thieves. Also the kids regularly ask for the Breathe Easier when they are sick. I can't say I'm convinced of the health benefits either but I figure it can't hurt and it does smell nice. Quote
ktgrok Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Mellow Mix, which I think is from acacia? It has the usual lavender, but a touch of sandalwood as well as a few other things. Very nice. I also like inTune from Dotera I think..I got a free sample at a homeschool convention. And I like to blend Rosemary with lavender, or Rosemary with Peppermint (smells like Christmas!). Quote
mmasc Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 My favorite smell-good mix is equal drops of lavender, lemon, and peppermint. It's my most used combo for making the house smell nice. Quote
frugalmamatx Posted August 13, 2016 Author Posted August 13, 2016 Okay a follow up question - can you use food grade extracts in place of essential oils in a diffuser? Like Vanilla extract or orange extract? Just curious as I tend to like food type scents {apple, vanilla, etc} and have extract that never gets used. Quote

I want to say I've done it with vanilla before. Quote
Guest Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 (edited) I just want to respond as I mentioned the Vanilla - I don't know the answer to that. I know NOT to go the other way (I don't use any of my oils as food extracts.) My thought would be not to use the extracts, but I don't know that for certain. Edited August 13, 2016 by Guest Quote
Miss Peregrine Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 I buy from Eden's Garden. I like citrus scents for around the house. I add them to my unscented cleaners just so it smells good. 1 Quote
