Hi everyone!!!!

I havent been on here in FOREVER. Things have really, really changed in our lives, and I wanted to stop by and say hi and give a little update as to what's been happening with my ds14 and ds11.

Both boys will be attending bricks-and-mortar schools next year. This is...HUGE as any of you who have never sent your kids to regular school might imagine. They both begin on Monday. DS11 is going to a private Montessori program (he'll be in 6th) that is small (30-35 kids in 6-8th) and very project-oriented and cozy. He has done a day there and loved it, loved the kids and even loved the math teacher (!!!). It is about 25 minutes from our house so it won't be easy, but we decided public middle wouldn't be right for him. He's excited.

Older is attending his local high school's IB program. He went to an orientation day today and received his schedule: Pre-Calculus, Pre-IB Biology, World History, Spanish, and AP Human Geography. The school gave us a bit of a hassle regarding his math (he's done Alg 1 and Geometry with TabletClass, Counting and Probability with AoPS and Algebra 2 at Wilson Hill) and wanted us to "prove" he was ready, which technically is not legal, but anyhoo--they put him in Pre-Calc...he was actually hoping for Trig but there ya go. I hope it won't be too overwhelming for him.

We have homeschooled since the beginning, so this decision was a tough one. Older wanted to experience high school; he felt he wasn't getting enough time with friends (he wasn't) and he is social. Younger isn't as social, and that was sort of the problem. Since I am working more, it was really hard to find like-minded friends for us to hang out with. Also, to be honest, I was getting burned out. Ds14 performs REALLY well for teachers other than me--and with me he was beginning to shirk his work, which resulted in arguments.

So anyway, it was a complicated decision but that's where we are. I am working more (I run an acupuncture clinic) and busier than ever. I am scared but excited for this new part of our educational journey, and hope I can come by here and say hi to you all even though we're not homeschooling anymore.

ETA: I will be posting a lot of awesome books for sale next week and the week after :)

Aww, thanks for the update. I was just thinking about you since I haven't seen anything from you in a long while.

B&M school, while an adjustment, will probably work out well. The Montessori program sounds great! (wish I had something like it for my DS!)

Do stop in now and then to say hi!

What a convenient time to check the forums. I haven't been on here in a long time either, but you helped me choose Lone Lpine Latin 3 years ago for my son. He's done with Latin now as well :( In fact he'll be concurrently enrolled into the local

university for his senior year. I'm sure your kids will love their new opportunities this year! All the best to you and yours!

All the best!!! We did the same 2 years ago, one DS entering 8th, one entering 6th. Overall, it was a great success. They started back 2 days ago, and both were so excited to see old friends, greet teachers, and get their syllabi (who knew those could be so popular?). Expect them to be exhausted at first by the 5-days-a-week, 7-hours-a-day grind, help them to stay on top of organization, but it sounds like they are in great situations!

Good luck to you guys! I have always loved reading your posts - you are so real and down to earth. Gosh, if my kids had those opportunities, I would highly consider those options! Best wishes in schooling and work ventures.
