mo2 Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 If you trusted the program all the way through, did it produce a good writer? Were they read to move on to SWB's suggested rhetoric texts? Were you happy with the program and its results? 1 Quote
prairiewindmomma Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 I have one kid who has gone all of the way through, and two who are moving up through the ranks. The program is very thorough, rigorous, and well-planned. My oldest put forth his best work when we were going through the program. His struggles were his own; he still needs work in THINKING. His flaws in thinking coherently and in being able to organize his work were improved by the program, and as a freshman this year, I expect that he will continue to move forward in becoming a solid writer. I am very happy with the program, enough so that I will be putting two more kids through it fully. My SN kid used WWE 1-3, but we switched him to IEW materials because they are lower in skill level. WWE/WWS is one of the few programs I've seen that truly prepares a kid for college level academic writing. 2 Quote

desertflower Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 The writing programs, WWE & WWS, are which online writing provider? Thank you, still learning and reviewing writing course providers. SWB is Susan Wise Bauer? WWE is writing with ease geared for elementary ages. WWS is writing with skill geared for the logic stage. Both sold by the Well Trained Mind Press. Yes, SWB is Susan Wise Bauer. Quote
butterflyhome Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Thank you for the explanation. I have been guided by SWB's, The Well Trained Mind: Guide to a Classical Education since age 7. We have used BraveWriter for writing as of late and luckily my student has been able to take writing workshops provided by grants at our library-taught by an author and we found more programs at a local college based community education program. This year we are looking for other programming and am reviewing WTM and Scholars Academy. There is so much to sift through, weighing what each programs offers, which I guess is a good thing. Quote
