Janeway
My daughter, who is turning 5 in a few weeks, has been begging for Snack'n Sara for a year now. We don't want to get it for her. Basically, this is a doll that you feed play dough food to. The food goes through the body and in to a diaper. Diapers are about $7 for a four pack. Additional food costs money too. Some reviews say the play dough food gets stuck in the digestion process and then the doll can't be used anymore, for the whole eating and diapering thing. Other reviews say the purchaser got the doll for free to review. I feel bad for not getting her the doll she has begged for for so long. I was hoping for feedback or advice on what to do. This is a $50 doll that she loves because of boxing videos. But it seems it won't work as well as it is supposed to quite quickly.
Anne in CA
If you can still afford it, I'd get her the doll and return it if it doesn't work. When my oldest was five she wanted a Baby Allgone, which "drank" milk from a bottle. Everyone in the extended family thought the others were getting it for her and so no one did. Disaster. She talked about it constantly, her mom told dh that she was getting it for her birthday, but then didn't. When she finally got it at Christmas a year later she was too old to enjoy it and only played with it a couple of days. I'd definitely get it while she's young enough to play with it, because if you don't get it she may fixate on it until you just have to get it anyway but she won't get the genuine happiness from it. Also, she will probably still play with it when it doesn't work anymore.
ktgrok
My nieces have that doll, and they LOVE it. They play with it all the time. Constantly. I'd think you could rig up some cloth reusable diapers to save on that expense. And the food mostly gets stuck if it gets dried out. I think you can use regular playdoh too, but am not sure. But if it gets dried out, that's what it seems to get stuck, though so far they've always been able to get it back out. that said, I think the doll is dumb, and am glad my daughter doesn't want one! But if she did, and was obsessed, and I could afford it, I'd say get it.
redsquirrel
lol, we had the same sort of doll when we were little girls. it was called 'baby alive' and you fed it weird fake baby food. I remember that there was an issue with the food drying in the doll, but you just had to give it a bottle of warm water after you 'fed' it. Once the food was gone that was that. But we loved our dolls.

zoobie
I've let my kids read the reviews and decide if they still wanted something. Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't.
