Prairie~Phlox Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 I'm interested in the IP, but there seem to be a lot of problems that people run into on the FB group. Especially stinky rings & the thing not working. So I'm just wondering if anyone has a different brand that they are happy with? Quote
zoobie Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 The rings are going to attract odors no matter what brand. Silicone just does that. You can buy extra and use one for spicy/smelly foods. :) I think all electronics are pretty much a crapshoot now. Just buy from somewhere that will replace the item if it's a lemon. On that large FB group, there also seems to be a bit of...user error at play? Someone cooked eggs in cardboard, kwim? ;) When I researched before buying an IP a couple of years ago, the Cuisinart got good reviews too. I think that may be what hippressurecooking blog person uses? 1 Quote
dirty ethel rackham Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 We've had an IP for almost a year now. I ended up buying a second silicone ring so that I could have one reserved for stinkier foods and one for milder foods (like steel-cut oats.) We love ours. I probably would not have taken the plunge for pressure cooking without the IP because it is so easy. I've made lots of bone broths, whole chickens, stews and soups, steel cut oats, etc. Anything we did in the slow cooker, we can do in the IP. I want to start making yogurt. Quote

The yogurt is amazingly easy, and mine came out delicious! I LOVE that it does the milk heating up to 185 as a separate setting, because I ALWAYS wind up scorching milk when I'm prepping it to do yogurt or cheeses. I haven't had my IP that long (maybe 6ish months), but I honestly would not want to live without it. It's one appliance I would replace tomorrow if it broke. Quote
