gardenmom5 Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 any favorites, not more than a couple hours or so from seattle? dh wants beach woods with a water view for a 'just us' picnic. shocked me -I'm usually the one wanting saltwater. He's ready to go to deception pass. I'd like somewhere else. . . I'm more inclined towards double bluff park on whidbey (on useless bay). we've been there before, had a nice view, sandy beach, small - you could even see seattle. (and the smog covering it. it was february) or fort ebey state park - which is huge, and does have a sandy beach. anyone been there? Quote
LucyStoner Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 (edited) I love Ft. Ebey. Washington Trails Association has great park information and you can search for options by distance and type of waterfront. http://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/fort-ebey-state-park Saltwater State Park (near Federal Way) is also nice but not as much of a get away as Whidbey would be. Jean in Newcastle Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 I like Fort Ebey. It's a very nice area for flying kites. It is supposed to be in the 80's by the end of the week. My most favorite beach is Klaloch but that's farther away, I think. Quote

I really liked waikiki beach by cape disappointment. there were a lot of different kinds of birds right off shore, it was a protected cove, it was a fabulous spot. (but *quite* the trek to get down there. we were camping.) has a light house too on a high bluff. you look *down* on the birds. 1 Quote
Upward Journey Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 (edited) I've been gone for 20 years, but Kopachuk State Park down by Gig Harbor might fit the bill. Edited August 9, 2016 by Upward Journey Quote
jjeepa Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 It's been a few years since I lived there, but I loved the beach at Whidbey Island. But yeah, I don't miss those ferry lines! Quote
Tess in the Burbs Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 If he's willing to go all the way to Deception Pass there are a few options. The quieter side of Deception has a nice beach area. You can hike and see a different view of the bridge. Or go to the tide pool area at Rosario Beach. That is pretty. Anacortes has that driving loop and you can stop in several places to look out to the San Juan islands. I didn't like Dash Point in Tacoma. Quote
Outdoorsy Type Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Port Townsend/Fort Worden has old bunkers to explore, and the beach is wonderful. It might be a little far, though. 1 Quote
