Has anyone here bought a mattress off Amazon.com? DD needs a new mattress as hers is a hand me down from me and about 12 years old. It's in okay shape, but with her loft bed it doesn't work well since it's a pillow top and quite heavy.

I'm considering buying a mattress off Amazon, since it comes to my door which is a LOT easier for me with transportation issues. I have a while to decide, as it will possibly be a Christmas present AND I also need to earn the gift cards to pay for it {not a problem as I get a fair amount of gift cards monthly}. I'm concerned at getting a bad mattress though since I can't exactly test it out like I would with buying from a regular store.

Has anyone here bought a mattress off Amazon, and if so which one? Did you like it?

Yes, I got one and I love it! Our previous one was 20+ years old so anything would be an improvement. But it is great, and I loved that it just came to my door, and I was able to fairly easily move it to the bedroom before opening it up and it expanded to full size. It has been almost a year and it has been really comfortable.

Would you please share how you earn Amazon gift cards?

It's a combination of ways honestly. Swagbucks, Bing rewards, Amazon trade-in {I watch for possible trade in books while out thrift shopping that I can make a profit on}, Small Biz Buzz {only for small business owners} - I think that is most of them :)

90% of it is Swagbucks though. I open it on my laptop and work on swagbucks while we do school most days.

I've had a Tuft & Needle mattress in my wish list for a long time, but our current mattress is still hanging in there. Never thought about the delivery aspect of it. That would be a real convenience! Although they wouldn't take away your old one, so you'd still have to dispose of that.

I just bought one on Wayfair for eldest dd's top bunk. I learned not to believe the write up, but the reviews are accurate. (They sometimes conflict!) The help function was completely unhelpful as the person answering my question didn't seem to speak English. Or, at least, they didn't seem to understand my question and kept answering a different question that I didn't ask.

I would buy from a place that allows free or low cost returns!

The game plan is to move her current mattress onto her old bed frame {non-loft bed} in our storage room & use it for sleepovers. It's still a decent mattress and comfy, even if old. It's just too heavy to get up into her loft bed  AND too thick to really be good for a loft bed.

Last year we purchased a double Wolf Slumber Express for my daughter from Amazon and a twin Wolf Slumber Express from Walmart.com.  Both are very comfortable and it was so nice to get them delivered to the door.   The boxes are very heavy, so I would suggest a helper and take them to the bed frame where it will be placed and open the box on the bed frame.  It needs a day to air out and get cushy.

I also use Swagbucks and its paid for quite a few nice things--I've earned over $3000 in the last couple of years just running videos while we homeschool and doing a survey every so often.  Sometimes I get Paypal and I can use those at Walmart.com as well. Right now, I am getting ready to order schoolbooks from Rainbow Resource with money earned from Swagbucks.  Then back to saving up for a new bike for me, Christmas and a Shark Rotator vacuum.

Did any of you who have bought memory foam mattresses have problems with the initial smell? I have considered one, but am concerned about that. I recently bought a pair of memory foam pillows from Costco and it took airing out on the screen porch for two days then a full day in the sun to get the smell to dissipate enough to use them. i do tend to be somewhat sensitive to strong smells (use scent-free detergent, can't handle scented candles, etc).

We bought a memory foam mattress topper and the smell really got to me for the first couple of weeks - made me nauseated.

For the OP, we bought a mattress from Amazon last year and it worked out great and we would definitely do it again.

Honestly, yes, it's a problem for about a week or so. No problem with it now. Quite honestly, it is the best mattress I've ever had.

I bought this mattress on Amazon two years ago. I would have given it a great review for the first year or so. Now, after two years, I need to replace it. Maybe for a very small/light child it would have been OK, but DS is very tall (which was the reason for buying a Twin XL) and it went from reasonably supportive to complete mush in 2 years — it's a 12" mattress, and it squishes down to about 4" when you sit on it.  If you read the negative reviews for the various cheap foam mattresses on Amazon, many comment on how the mattress basically broke down within a couple of years, if not sooner.

The other big problem with these mattresses is that they're almost impossible to return, because they're vacuum-sealed in plastic when they're sent to you, and there's no way to get them back in the box. The 20-25 year "warranties" they offer are pretty much worthless — you have to have an identifiable dent or body print in the foam for them to refund the purchase price; the fact that the foam just gives out and turns to mush doesn't count as a "defect."

My own bed is an actual Tempur-Pedic, which is about 12 years old now, and it's in perfect condition — as firm and supportive as the day I bought it. I can't afford a Tempur-Pedic for DS (who will be gone to college in a couple of years anyway) so I will probably get him one like DD's; I bought hers on sale at Ikea 2 years ago, and that one has been proven to be much higher quality.

(ETA:  DS's mattress smelled terrible for about 2 weeks after we got it, even with leaving the window in his room open all the time. He slept on the sofa until it finished off-gassing.)

We bought a memory foam/laytex mattress from Sam's Club 4-5 years ago and it's been the best mattress I've ever owned.  Went back and bought four twins for the kids.  Brand was Night Therapy.  For a Queen, I want to say it was around $400.  The twins were about $250 and included a metal base too.

Would you call it firm support? We need a new one as well. I am watching this thread. But I am always afraid of spending a fair amount of money on the wrong mattress.

I need good support for lower back issues. I am a side sleeper. Dh gets used to nearly everything but does not like super hard or super soft.

If you haven't had memory foam before, I would go test drive some mattresses in a store IRL before ordering one.  We thought we wanted memory foam, and were all set to order based on reviews - but then we went and tried some at a bed store, and learned that we both hate memory foam.  We like latex.  It is firmer and cooler than foam, and we hated the sinky squeezy feeling of the foam.  We ended up buying a rolled-up-delivery mattress, but from a local store instead of online, and ours is latex.  It cost a bit more, but we would not have been happy with memory foam.
