Cleaning out closet - something has been eating the clothes

I wish I could post a photo but I don't know how, but something has chewed holes in some of the clothes in this closet that hasn't been cleaned out in 10 years, I'm afraid.  Some holes are small round ones but others are quite big.  I am pretty grossed out.  I feel the need to run to the store and buy something, maybe cedar something for closets and maybe a mouse trap or two.

 

Ick, ick, ick.  I need a cup of iced coffee before proceeding further.

If you don't see any mouse poop anywhere, I wouldn't worry about mice. It's probably just insects (e.g. moths).

We had squirrels in our attic that made nice work of some sweaters and sweatshirts. I wouldn't expect squirrels to find their way into your closet though. So sorry!

most likely moths. They can make big holes if left undisturbed. 

I'd bag all the clothes and throw in the garbage. Vacuum the closet thoroughly, all the walls, ceiling, nooks and crannies. If it has carpet, pull it up. Seal any crevices with caulk.
