LLMom Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Anyone know where I can find some excitement for another year of homeschooling? After so many years, I'm just not feeling it this year. 2 Quote

2_girls_mommy Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 I found a couple of things have helped me this year: 1. Getting the house in order. I spent a lot of time this summer organizing all the places that needed decluttered, organized, etc. All of our school supplies have been weeded out, organized, labeled, and just look new and shiny. I made it as close to a magazine picture homeschool room as I can accomplish in my space with my budget. I cleaned out tubs of materials and supplies, some of which were 10 yrs old, which just freed up space in my brain for joy. Clutter, even tucked away in boxes and tubs in my laundry room and garage, was cluttering up my thoughts. 2. I chose some new materials for one of my dds that needed a change. She is so excited, seriously, about school because of this small change I made. Its only for part of her day, and it's very un-Well Trained Mind-ish. But it makes her so so happy. And she is learning. But it is a more fun artsy-gamey way of learning for a bit of our day. It's what she needed. It gives me joy to see her joy. 3. as an extension of #1, having a good schedule for house cleaning as well as school so that I keep up with everything actually makes our house run so much better. So tweaking what I didn't like from last year and changing it up gets me thinking at least we can survive another year. 4 Quote
LLMom Posted August 2, 2016 Author Posted August 2, 2016 I've been at this for 21 years. Some of my kids have been in school, but I have always had someone at home. I'm down to my last 2 and I am just tired of it all. Mid- life slump kinda thing. I tried getting at a job at one do private school so I could bring these last 2 with me, but enrollment is down and they ended up not needing another teacher. I really want/ need a job. Quote
2_girls_mommy Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 I'll be there one day too. When my first graduates high school in 4 yrs my youngest will be starting K. I'm sure I will have those moments too. Hope you find what you need! Quote
momacacia Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 I'm just very physically exhausted. 10mo that doesn't sleep, I'm working on getting my iron levels up and we do more running around more than ever. I think I'm dreading the outside things the most..and the driving and dragging baby and preschooler around. And I haven't gotten the organization done that was needed...so I'll press on with that. Lilaclady Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 What about giving yourself a celebration.21 years is a long time. Way to go!!!!!! Do something nice for yourself like you will get if you were employed at a job for 21 years. All the best. 2 Quote

I have only been at this for 8 years and it feels like an awful long time some days. 1 Quote
BlsdMama Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 (((Hugs))) This summer was like that. Last year was our first year of outside stuff and driving.... You're right, it was exhausting. Is there anyway to minimize that? Our DS has his license now and I just refuse to do it all for a 14yo. We'll let her do a couple things but I refuse to do crazy because while it's great fun for ONE person in the family, the rest of us suffer the consequences. We did get her her permit so that we are working towards her license at 16yo so that I'm never driving a junior again. Would any of this help you? I think it's the driving the preschoolers and babies around that is the hardest emotionally because you remember how sweet of a time it was with your oldest kiddos and how it isn't with your youngest ones. It's really the reason we refused to do more with DD14 this year. I just couldn't do that to the littles. Last year was a good year for DS and necessary, IMO, to accomplish his goals, but having BTDT, I'm setting myself to NOT do it with the next ones. 1 Quote
SnMomof7 Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Well...this year we have cut some boring subjects and replaced with fun, online stuff. Way less nagging so far! Happy mom. 1 Quote
lisabees Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Outsource some classes. Work on a new hobby or acquire new skills to get the job you will like when the time is right. Take a class, online or not. Get a FUN part time job. Connect with friends on a regular basis. Quote
mamiof5 Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 I'm not sure I added more excitement, but I did need more motivation. I prayed, I prayed a lot this summer about our homeschooling journey, because I was feeling I couldn't do it, just didn't have it in me. Good luck!!! 4 Quote
Grantmom Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 OP, I clicked on the link in your sig line, and it took me to a different website with all Chinese characters. I think maybe your site has been hacked? You may want to take it out of your sig line so someone else doesn't do that. I hope I didn't do anything to my computer by clicking on that. Lesson learned here! 1 Quote
