We're joining the smart phone movement, lol.

Ds is looking at a refurbished Samsung Galaxy 5 through Ting.

Not too old/ outdated, right?

He just needs Internet & phone/text access when he's on CC campus or out alone.

He does do FTc robotics & they use a phone app for programming, so he might like to play around with app development, but no way can we afford a newest model right now, we need to buy a new computer too.

I gave my s5 to dd9 when I got the s7 a few months ago.

I reset it to factory settings, and downloaded a bunch of new apps. I didn't have a single compatibility error or problem.

I would have been happy to stay with the 5, but it worked out for me to upgrade for almost free so I went with the s7.

Much better than the Samsung phone I use, which is also from 2014. I would suggest that you confirm (on eBay) that you can buy batteries for that phone, without any problems, before you actually make the purchase.

I do not know the exact model of the phone you are looking at, so I googled for "Samsung Galaxy 5" (without the quote marks).  I looked at the specs, on this URL:

http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s5-6033.php

If those are the Specs in the phone you are looking at, it is much more like the Motorola Turbo phone my wife bought at the end of January 2016, regarding specs.

I really like that it has Gorilla Glass, like my wife's Motorola.  The primary camera is 16 Mpx which will be nice if he takes a lot of photos.

The page I linked to above says it has LTE.  If that's 4G, that would be a plus, IMO.

NOTE: If the specs on the page I linked to are correct and it has a REMOVABLE BATTERY, to me, that is a huge plus.  My wife's Motorola phone does not have a Removable Battery and if and when the time comes to replace the battery, I suspect it will cost so much that she will end up buying a new phone...

DH and I have had nothing but problems with our Galaxy S5s.  Both were purchased new from T-mobile.  Mine was replaced with a refurb several months ago and the refurb is awful too.  DH's screen died a couple months ago, and I bought him a cheap LG at the T-mobile store for $150, and he said it works a thousand times better than the S5 ever did.
