It's almost August, so welcome to August. I ought to be in planning mode, but it will wait. Books aren't here yet anyway.

Today-writing. I need to do a little housekeeping. That's about it. This week should be kind of light--we have a family outing planned this week, and the cat has her eye appointment (eye looks good today). I met my camp goal for NaNoWriMo yesterday, but there is a lot of novel left to revise. I'll be working on that all during August.

About the only planning I've done for fall term is to say we will start Aug 29th. :tongue_smilie:

Today is one of the few days that I'm not running around this week. I hope.

Schedule:

French-nothing (still waiting on books)

Latin-more work on Lesson 25, a bunch of translation today. Review grammar cards

Math-Lesson 13, 1 page Key to Decimals

Language/Grammar-no spelling this week, KISS Exercise 6b on phrases, Lesson 13 in Grammar of Poetry

History-Arkansas History-reading about duels and steamboats, questions to answer, additonal reading in Science about travel on the Mississippi

Science-Waters-reading about ocean chemistry, questions to answer, additional reading in Pagoo

Literature-finishing the DVD of Henry V today.

For me: Latin, Geometry, Writing, Housekeeping. I think there is some cooking today--yes, almost sure about that.

We got back from Junior Olympics yesterday. DD did awesome - 2 silvers, a bronze and a 5th place in her four events. Now DD is breathlessly anticipating Grandma's call that she's on her way to pick her up. (For a whole week!!!!!!!!!!) So, no school this week, and I'm off work today to recover and catch up on laundry.

My SIL got married this weekend, too. I felt bad that we couldn't be there, but they didn't announce it until THAT day, and it was the one day DD had competition from 10am to 3pm, plus a two hour workout that evening.

Because I don't want to just thread crash (nothing worse than a thread-crashing newbie), but also because I kind of need an accountability thread -- is this an "exclusive" thread for old friends? Or open to anybody? Pardon my awkwardness. :)

Oh thank goodness, because after a week of cramming to meet a work deadline and neglecting my kid, followed by a total disaster of a first "official" day of homeschool, I feel like I need...something.

I suggest something heavily coated in chocolate...

Any and all welcome to participate! Welcome to the thread.

We are getting through the day. I've got cleaning next and then I've got to bully myself into making dinner. The boys are finishing up science and history and we are supposed to watch Henry V tonight. All I really want to do is write or maybe take a nap.

Hi all!!

Bonnie--welcome to the thread!

Aurelia--congrats to your DD and your SIL! I hope your dd enjoys her week off.

We got 30 min each of Latin and math for the older kiddo, piano lesson and two chapters of an east reader done for the younger, it's definitely nice to be working our way back into a routine.

I'm thinking of reworking my housekeeping schedule for the upcoming school year. I'm still looking for that elusive three hour block of time for writing (and it can't occur between the hours of 10pm and 6am, because I'll end up as crazy as Edgar Allen Poe if I have to keep them hours! )

Not only can new people drop in, but previous drop-outs can come back, right?

Critterfixer, thank you for the ongoing momentum of the accountability thread.

At the moment, I am in dire need of accountability. We will be making an international move back to the USA in October. And I absolutely positively will not let my 10th grader's semester be a disaster. Can all of you hold my hand, please?!

Sure, Penguin. That's going to be a big move.

I'm off to take kitty to her eye appointment. Then I'm supposed to do school and write 3000+ words on my novel today. Trying to keep the momentum for the revision bit going through August. I also didn't get any sleep between around 3 am and now. So this could get interesting.

Box day arrived last night. I didn't get my French CD, but got the rest of the French. So I'm still out of French until I get my CD. But I have a lot of books and workbooks to go through in the next few weeks to try to get them to fit into some kind of schedule that works for a 4.5 day week.

Critter-hoping for a good report on kitty this morning.  I'm up doing some soul searching and praying this morning.  Nothing major, just trying to make sure i'm running this race for the right reasons and gently reminding myself that i've nothing to prove to anyone.  Headed in to get the boy up so that we can get busy, gonna move my workout to after lunch because my knee is killing me.

I just wanted to say that I've only been lurking for the last few weeks.  There has been no school going on for me to be accountable for.  But I like reading what others are doing and cheering everyone on.  I will join the school bandwagon sooner or later.

Good morning! I'm taking a much-needed hour to myself to fiddle with my homeschooling blog (not professional) and drink a smoothie (fruit! my body loves "just finished a book and no longer on deadline" days) and congratulate myself on not throwing in the towel after yesterday's Homeschool Day 1. Today was MUCH better. Probably because I guided DS through a morning routine (mostly patiently) and started the "school" morning with a fun 25 minute active exercise thing that included giggling, leaping and energy-burning. And ditching several of my planned components.

Anyway regrouping this week.

1) Follow up with co-op I decided against (need to get my money back)

2) Research some more active morning games for "school day"

3) Continue with new A.M. and P.M. routines

4) Expecting Get Ready/Set/Go for the Code books today--I need to review those very thoroughly and decide whether to keep or return.

5) Strive for peaceful school mornings

6) Take some photos of my kid.

7) Library book return and pick up

Hi Penguin! Good luck with everything, you've got a lot on your plate!

Hi Jean! I hope you are enjoying your break.

From the last thread re grammar for the young - mid elementary group: what I'm reading is that I can skip grammar this year, focus on her writing that needs major help and incorporate grammar casually as it comes up in writing projexts. Am I close to what you all were actually saying? Because that plan sounds really good to me right now. :D

Today's list:

- babysit nephew (all day)

- laundry (going now)

- summer math lesson with dd

- piano practice (done)

- outside activities after early dinner

I think most young kids (not just boys--but boys will let you know about it!) need a very active school day for a very long time. I still remember running through Latin vocabulary cards with the boys as they ran laps around the wall that separates the kitchen from the living room. Laps and laps and laps! I also found that read aloud time went much better if I did not expect either of the boys to sit for it. They honestly can pay attention while drawing or playing with tinker-toys.

Kitty is going to have to stay on her drops, which doesn't surprise me given that she developed an ulcer a mere ten days after stopping them. Now we just have to find a drop that she doesn't mind; she tries to rub her face after I put these in, and I'd like to find something she tolerates better since she has to stay on them.

Hope your knee gets to feeling better!

Today's schedule (I hope):

French-none until my CD gets here

Latin-Quiz

Math-Lesson 14, a page of Key to Decimals

Grammar/Composition-KISS exercise (not phrases today, thank goodness!), Grammar of Poetry-trochaic imitation lesson 14

Literature-we will get to Henry today if it kills me

For me--I'm going to cut class today. I'm going to supervise school and write, it's baked potato night and I've got writers' group this evening.

Today we got the water bill paid, lol, latin review and finished the lesson, math and piano practice.  I'm having a bad ending to the day because after updating my ipad, I once again can't stay logged in on it!!  I really hate those stupid apple updated because they always mess something up.

Today's schedule: Field trip. :001_smile:

Enjoy!! We're taking an eternity to get through math right now and then we'll be moving on to Latin. I will definitely be keeping Latin to 30 minutes, lol. The younger did practice his keyboard but he made a lot of mistakes, I just don't think their heads are in the game today.

I eleventh-hour found some fun "brain break"/movement cards on the TPT site last night so I bought those, yoga, monster exercises and something I don't remember because it was midnight! Hah. I'm glad I did because yesterday I introduced ABC Exercise Cards as the beginning of our awesome school day and my son loved them. He asked for them again this morning--so I look forward to using the activity cards. So -- that's one thing off my to-do list.

Library--check. But I meant to weed my checked out number down from 20...and now I have 35 checked out. Clearly I did something wrong.

Phonics books arrived. I'm debating whether to send them back. I don't love them and I'm concerned my son will fight the extreeeemely basic approach.

The rest of the day I'm pickling the 400 cucumbers I've amassed from my single cucumber plant, and I harvested a spaghetti squash. Woohoo.

DD is doing great, finishing her second round of antibiotics. The mono test came back negative, so we're not sure what she had, but hope she's over it.

She's so busy hanging out with Grandma that I get a "good morning" text and a "good night" text and nothing in between. I've finally had a little time to myself, instead of constantly driving DD back and forth to tumbling, so I've been getting some exercise in. I need it too, after nearly a week of things like pizza, hot dogs and whatever restaurants were near the hotel.

Oh, and I just ordered the last pieces of English we'll need, so we are on track to start all new stuff Sept 1, assuming the English arrives on time (it IS Winter Promise, after all, and they don't have the speediest shipping.)

Great day today! Aside from getting math, Latin, piano practice, and a chapter in our book done, we went to the ortho today. The next visit will be our last, they are going to remove his braces!! I'm going to miss sitting in the massage chairs while he's being rewired but, I'm so happy to be done with those visits.

Arrived back in Denmark yesterday after a month in the USA.

I spent yesterday feeling like a zombie, but I hit my goal yesterday of staying awake until 9 p.m.

Flights were fine, but none of our luggage showed up. :cursing: Hoping it is not actually lost...there is an out of print math book plus its hard-to-find TM in there.

Our first official school day is August 10.

On tap for today, by category:

Basic To-Dos:

Start trying to find movers to ship our stuff back to the USA

Set up One-Note for 10th grade

Set up Master Calendar for 2016-2017 school year

Follow up on the missing luggage

Self-Ed:

Gild my Duolingo Danish Tree

Read one chapter in my Danish novel

Self-Care:

Yoga

Nap

Our late summer term field trip to the water park went well. The boys had a great time, we saw some beautiful country on the way down, and none of us got burnt to a crisp.

Today's schedule:

French-none

Latin-none

Math-Test, Key to Decimals

Grammar/Composition-KISS grammar exercise on adjective and adverb use, free writing

History-none

Science-none

Literature-none

Art-I'm thinking free drawing

For me: I'm going to catch up on some housekeeping, cook a couple of things and write. Oh, and it's library day.

Penguin--I'm hoping your luggage is not lost.

Critter--very good day day, when you're outside all day and no one gets burnt!

Today we've gotten math, piano practice and our chapters read. Ds has decided that he'd prefer to go back and complete LC and save Henle for next year, so that's what we're going to do. We may actually get to start Henle after our Christmas break.

Yeah. We crept from shade to shade like vampires, but still! Lots and lots of sunscreen and thank goodness for swim shirts!

Change of plans for today. Ds got his 2nd round of allergy shots yesterday and now has a rash all over his arm and his back. So now we have to drive an hour to have the allergist look at it and decide what to do going forward. And here I thought things we going smoothly with these shots.  :glare:

It will probably eat up the whole afternoon so who knows when we will get the groceries or summer school done. I was all about getting the summer math lesson over and done with this morning when dd came into the kitchen with her nature study supplies, fully dressed and ready to go outside and explore. I couldn't say no to that. She was out there for nearly 2 hours!!!

The baby is napping and the big kids are reading an old children's picture book version of The Phantom of the Opera together while I am getting some planning done for this upcoming school year. We have to leave after lunch. Uggh. I am getting super grumpy that we have to interrupt the laid back rhythm of this lovely summer day.  :cursing:  Don't get me wrong. I feel terrible for him that he has sooooo many allergies. He truly is allergic to EVERYthing. My heart goes out to him. That is why we are doing the shots in the first place. To give him a better quality of life. Its just... frustrating. I better stop before I get really worked up.

Have a great weekend everyone!!  :seeya:

MrsRobinson, I so know what it's like to be having the most wonderful day only to have it interrupted by having to leave the house. I can also relate to your frustrations with the allergies, we have a ton of those too. I hope you guys are able to recapture your day.

We did math, Latin, piano practice and two chapters in our read aloud.
