wendyroo
My boys have been imagining elaborate battle plans and running around commanding each other to "Launch the attack squadron as soon as we enter firing range!!". Their play seems to center around how the battle is going to progress and who will be in charge of doing what when and where. It immediately brought to mind the battle tactics in Ender's Game, but they aren't nearly ready for everything else that book deals with. Are there better options for the early elementary level? Would The Pushcart War fit the bill? I'm pretty sure I read it long ago, but I don't really remember any details? Other ideas? Thanks. BarbecueMom
It's early, after I get some coffee I'll see if I can remember any that we've done that fit the bill. One suggestion I have based on their play is getting into RPGs. DH downloaded one called Hero Kids, which is a somewhat cute, kid-friendly introduction to Dungeons and Dragons-style gaming. I was going to have DH take over read alouds, but he's a pretty good dungeon master, and the kids have been narrating back to me the story from their games. Close enough, lol. Monica_in_Switzerland
The Green Ember and its prequel are not space-battle, but they do have some battles with tactical details.
Tenaj
Have they read any Redwall? There are lots of battles and strategy in those books though again, not space-related.
