One thing I have a lot of is hair bands. They suit my face and are my go-to on bad hair days. I have a lot of soft hair bands of various widths and materials and also some thin hard ones and a couple of wider hard ones. They are currently housed in a wicker basket I keep on my dresser that also contains my hairbrush, deodorant, a mirror, a case that I use for travel, a package of dental flossers, a small round wicker basket that has nail scissors, 2 hair elastics and other small stuff, and a few other items. The big basket looks nice but the hair bands are all over the place inside the basket and it is hard to find the right color quickly. I am currently trying to make things more organized and I want to find a solution for these. I do not want to display the hair bands in any way on my dresser or wall. I either want to keep them in the basket in a more organized form or I want to put them in my dresser in a way that does not take too much space but is also very easy for me to get to. I looked on Pinterest and Google Images for ideas but all I saw was little girl hair bands organized on display.

It's the end of summer, pick up a seed tray at the clearance section.  I used my kid's old advent calendar.  He was sent a Lego one so the boxes were nice and deep. I stripped off the cardboard and took the plastic insert. It fits perfectly in my drawer, all the hair bands are in the front boxes and various other doodads in the rest: tweezers, nail clippers, barrettes, lip gloss..

Have you ever considered ditching the hair bands and going with something a little nicer?  I sell Lilla Rose and LOVE their products, they are a bit of an investment, but can tell you that the Flexi clip that I wear almost daily is over 6 years old and looks like new, plus you can do all kinds of hair styles with them. There are all one piece and are made to last.  The link is in my signature if you are interested.  :)

We use a non-locking carabineer for hair elastics.  It holds everything securely, and you can quickly rotate through to get the one you want out without hassle.

Another great hair organization item that isn't technically a girly thing:  We use magnetic parts bowls to keep barrettes and bobby pins in place - no spills, no difficulty taking one out or putting one away.

Are you talking about head bands or ponytail elastics?

hair bands

LOL - maybe this is another regional communication thing.  Hair bands in my area can mean both headbands and ponytail elastics.

I have a gazillion bangles cluttering my jewelry bin. They were in the way until I found an old belt of mine that was broken so I couldn't wear it, but it still had usable holes. I just threaded all the bangles onto the belt. It keeps them from taking over and I can get to any bracelet I need without removing the other ones. It makes them easier to pack too and I didn't have to buy anything.

I'm another vote for some sort of ring or belt or shoelace for anything that is a complete circle...you can grab one thing and easily look at all of them.

For any 'U' shaped headbands I would store them on the edge of the basket so that I could see what I have. If that was too cluttered I'd probably try stashing them together in a Ziploc bag or similar.

For headbands, a friend of mine hooked them around an empty Quaker oatmeal container (the big cylindrical one). I use ziploc bags for my hair elastics. I know, I keep it classy over here. ;)

Do you have space on the back of a door?

If you can sew even the tinest bit I have seen a wide strip of ribbon (sew a circle hanger to the top snd use a command hook to hang it) with a strip of thinner elastic down the middle with loops sewn every few inches. Then you hook the bands through the loops.

I'm another who read "hair bands" and immediately thought of ponytail elastics, and I couldn't figure out what you meant when you said you had hard ones.  "How can you have a hard elastic?"  To me, what you are describing is called a "head band."  You might do your Pinterest search again, using the words "Head band" instead of "Hair band"

One idea: look for a cylinder shaped container.  You could use an oatmeal carton and decorate it with contact paper.  Or, you could go to Hobby Lobby or the like and get a tall, cylindrical vase (clear plastic would be safest) that's about 5-6 inches in diameter.  You could place the hard bands around near the base, and the stretchy ones closer to the top.  It would be easy to see and access each individual band as it is stacked up the vase, and you'd have the benefit of being able to store things inside as well (though it might be a reach to get to them if it's a tall vase.

If they are the wide type you can fold and stand vertically in a box Marie Kondo style. For thinner ones you might need a small rail to hang them on

We had a divided box from Ikea that had a lid for the cloth ones.  DD17 just folded the cloth ones so they all sat on end (so you could see the edge of each one from the top) and put them in the divided spots.

Otherwise a 3 inch carabiner with a spring closure was used to sort by dds preference at the time.  She probably had 6 or 12 carabiners to sort onto. (some styles of shower hooks would likely work as well. Whether by color or style (athletic vs fashion).  The hard ones just laid in the bottom of the basket or were around a plastic container that she decorated.  It may have been a small plastic coffee can, I can remember.  Then inside the container she would put ones that she did use very often but wasn't ready to get rid of.  Holiday themed or ones that weren't very comfortable but matched a certain outfit etc.
