LynnS
This past year I've been supplementing Right Start Math with Evan Moor's Daily Word Problems (Grade 1). The workbook has an animal theme, and the problems are interspersed with fun animal facts. My son has really enjoyed this format, and has never objected to doing a few problems a day. I took a look at the Grade 2 book, and it looks pretty boring by comparison. Is anyone aware of a "fun" word problem book series for the lower grades that has a similar engaging format?
eternallytired
Not a workbook, but the Bedtime Math book series is like what you describe. It has a paragraph of interesting information on a topic followed by three or four word problems (of increasing difficulty) related to the topic. Each book has several chapters with probably 15 problem sets per chapter. My math-averse daughter actually asked to do more problems from those books. ETA: Check your library and you can always try them for free. There are three books--and I just discovered that they have a website with an app and a "Today's Fun Math" problem set of the day. http://bedtimemath.org/ Edited July 29, 2016 by eternallytired
Shoes+Ships+SealingWax
Which level of RS did you pair the Evan Moor word problems with?
Jackie
I second Bedtime Math. My daughter, who has a love/hate relationship with math, absolutely loved these books and would remind me to give her problems from it if I forgot.
LynnS
Which level of RS did you pair the Evan Moor word problems with? Hmmm. About the last third of A, beginning of B.
