JuliYahna
HELP PLEASE! Hi everyone, I'm from Colombia, my family and I are homeschooling, now I'm starting to teach English to my little brother,I've searched lots of methods but the typical method we use here to learn English as ESL students is not as good as it could be, so I decided to use the same method you guys use to teach language to your kids, because it creates real English speakers not traducers. So now I would like your advice and help, where should I start? what should I do now? where can I find spelling and phonics rules and tools and exercises?? where can I find free books to read?? I know the A BEKA and the HBJ language books are so good but I don't have the possibility to buy it right now... thank you guys!!
3 ladybugs
At 4 years of age, I would look on Pintrest for ideas for preschool. There are often free printables on there that could help you. You could also try http://www.letteroftheweek.com/preschool_age_3.html to see if that helps you. I would also see if you could find old Sesame Street episodes online. ANYTHING will teach him in American English and he will hear the patterns of our speech. There may be minor differences if you are looking at episodes from the 1970's but it is certainly passable. https://www.youtube.com/user/SesameStreet Looks like they have their own channel on YouTube. I would stay away from Elmo but the rest should be okay. Good luck!

Xahm
If your local library has a children's librarian, introduce yourself and ask for suggestions. If they have a kids' story and song time, that will be a great interactive opportunity. Our library even has a bilingual preschool story time, which can help him see how valuable his Spanish is and may help you meet more bilingual families. If you find yourself naturally speaking to him mostly in Spanish, try inviting non-spanish speakers over as often as possible so that you and he will be more inclined to speak English.
73349
There are English phonics videos (for the teacher, not the child) at https://www.youtube.com/user/LogicofEnglish/videos You can also look for a book of nursery rhymes in English, or videos of them. (Rhyming is harder in English than Spanish because fewer words end in vowels.) It's a fun game to read a child a line of the poem, then in the next rhyme, stop before the last word and see if he can supply it, remembering it from previous readings.

Dmmetler
Starfall.com is good, too. They only had the free stuff when DD was that age. They've added an expanded subscription since.
