Epicurean Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 If you have an Amazon Chase Rewards credit card, be warned that they're increasing the number of points you need for rewards from 100 points per $1 to 125 per $1 starting September 1. So if you have points saved up, cash them in by August 31 to get the most out of them. FYI it's better to have the points applied toward your credit card statement rather than using points to buy something on Amazon. You don't earn points on items you buy using points (it's better to earn 900 points from buying a $300 item on Amazon with your card and just use your saved points to pay down your credit debt). The option to cash in your points is available on the desktop Chase site (I don't think it's on mobile). 6 Quote
purpleowl Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Thanks for the heads-up. We may look into different cards and see if we can get a better rewards deal once this change goes into effect! Quote
purpleowl Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Also, would you mind posting a link to where you found this info? I can't seem to find it. Quote
G5052 Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Ah, bummer. We don't have credit card debt, and I use the points to buy gifts all year. I'll probably keep doing that, but it's good to know. Quote
Epicurean Posted July 29, 2016 Author Posted July 29, 2016 Also, would you mind posting a link to where you found this info? I can't seem to find it. Oh right, I should have included that in my post! http://twocents.lifehacker.com/the-amazon-rewards-for-your-chase-card-are-about-to-get-1784390029 Quote
purpleowl Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 From that site, it looks like the change will only be for when you want to use your points to directly purchase things on Amazon, which is not what we've done anyway (better to get cash back and then use the card to buy Amazon purchases, which gets you more points, which you can get cash for, etc.). DH is the one who gets emails related to our card, but he said he doesn't remember seeing anything about this change via email. Quote
Guest Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 I'm confused. If I have $100 in points on my Amazon card, I can use them to take $100 off my cc bill? Quote

Amira Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 From this article, it looks like this applies to Ultimate Rewards cards, not Chase Amazon cards. Am I missing something? I know I didn't get an email about this. 2 Quote

JustEm Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 I got an email from Chase, I have a chase freedom card. It was about if I used my chase rewards points on amazon they will not go as far essentially. $1 will go from 100 points to 125. But if I want to redeem it for cash or pay my credit card with my points it is still 100 points for $1. So basically it is now a waste to shop with your points on Amazon since they don't go as far as if you just redeemed it for cash 1 Quote
