Slache
I asked my 5 year old if he wanted a plant and he said he wants a hermit crab instead. Can we do that? Google seems to think we can. It seems pretty straight forward. Am I wrong?
hornblower
see this thread. Fwiw, I'd proceed very carefully, & I wouldn't assume it's a cheap hobby. http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/618563-hermit-crabs/

Having BTDT, and discovering all the above the hard way, I don't view them as easy pets.

DS managed to keep one alive for years. It was fun, in a strange way.

You feed them once a week, right? How often do you water them? And how much sunlight?
Spryte
DS kept his in his bedroom window. He followed the watering directions, and tried not to over water it. He fed it weekly or monthly - I can't remember the specifics, but it came with directions. It even flowered! I was shocked that it lived so long, and was such a happy little plant.
