Annie Laurie Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 I have a son who has ASD and does very well with concrete materials that are laid out in a way he can easily follow. I don't care about him having a rigorous history program, we would like him just to have a solid history overview. We're doing something I found that will work well for him for literature that isn't tied into history, so we don't need a history program with literature included. I think he'd do well with a textbook, but it needs to not have too many details or rabbit trails, or too much clutter on the page. Any ideas? I looked at Notgrass history, I would prefer something secular but thought it might be simpler, but even that just looked like too much for him. He needs to spend his time and efforts on his online math and computer programming classes, because that's what will benefit his future goals the most, and we also need to spend a lot of time on writing this year. So any ideas for a solid but simple history text for highschool? Quote
Annie Laurie Posted July 23, 2016 Author Posted July 23, 2016 Thoughts on Glencoe high school history texts? I can't find a sample. Quote
Sebastian (a lady) Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 What topic in history are you trying to cover this year? (I don't think the best US history text is necessarily the best at World history or European history.) What reading level are you looking for? Quote
Haiku Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 There is a free, online history textbook here. My dd read it last year and enjoyed it. Quote
foxbridgeacademy Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 here's another online/PDF option that another boardie recommended. Very short to the point but has more info then what you'd expect from something titled "Outline of US History". We're pairing it with TGC's History of the US and Stanford's "Read Like a Historian" lessons (not ALL of them, there's like 70+ lesson for US History). No suggestions for World History other than to look for "Brief" versions of textbooks. Quote
MEmama Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 We used Prentice Hall World History last year and liked it. It's not as messy and full of extra sidebars and so on as some are. The end of section and chapter review questions are plenty in depth for a high schooler. Quote
