Scarlett Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 I just saw this on the news. I googled the video and watched it several more times. It made me sick to my stomach. Has anyone seen it? http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/austin-police-chief-sickened-violent-arrest-breaion-king-n614586 Quote
Anne in CA Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 I just saw it. To be honest, I suspect that in some areas where police are not accountable, this happens all the time. There is no amount of training that can made a rotten apple good. The officer in question is a rotten apple. His behavior is an utter disgrace. Quote
Mrs. Tharp Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 This happens all the time, period. The only thing that's changed is new ubiquity of cell phone video cameras. Police violence is not a question of rotten apples, it's a question of institutional racism. Notice how in the article it says this incident was never brought to the attention of upper level officers. Multiple officers were involved here. 6 Quote
Miss Peregrine Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 So sad. :( I wish dash cams and cams on the officers were standard equipment. I'm glad someone caught it on tape. Quote
Mrs. Tharp Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Apparently body cams have become standard issue for Chicago police--but now they are having trouble with officers deliberately turning off their cameras. More work needs to be done there, for sure. Quote

More work needs to be done there, for sure. Turning of deliberately, turning off while peeing and forgetting to turn them back on, and getting displaced during a scuffle. These are all things that need to be addressed. Quote
Scarlett Posted July 23, 2016 Author Posted July 23, 2016 Does anyone have an opinion on whether she was resisting? No excuse for the violence he displayed but I do wonder if she was resisting or not. Quote
