Maybe I dreamt it?  A thread about buying a computer.  I think it was specific to college. I think it included recommendation of Costco.  I think it started about two months ago.

I have searched!  

Can any one point me to this thread?

Possibly look at this URL of Blair Technology Group. Our family purchased three (3) Refurbished Dell Latitude E6400 laptops from them, at separate times, during 2014 and 2015.  I'm using the 2nd one we received from them.   I believe normally they  provide a one year warranty on everything except the battery, but you need to verify that with them, because I know at times they sell boxes that are not in "A1" condition, cosmetically or otherwise, and I think those only have a 30 day warranty.   We've since begun moving to more recent technology and I have won  2 Used Dell Latitude E6410 laptops ("INCOMPLETE") from an eBay seller in PA in eBay auctions, and   a Dell Precision M4500 Mobile Workstation, from the same eBay seller.  I would probably not go for a Latitude E6400 at this time, because the E6410 has much later technology.  Here's the link to the web page that was in the email I received from them about 11 minutes ago:
