MEmama
I'm sick today and dinner has to be easy. I'm making shrimp spring rolls with a bunch of CSA veggies and a side of peanut sauce. What can I make to go with them? Thanks!
PeachyDoodle
I'd go with some kind of rice.

Ethel Mertz
Seaweed salad. Edamame. If you have either of those ingredients on hand, that is... Other than that, maybe more cut up veggies?

Ooh yeah...I do have edamame in the freezer and a new to me seaweed I need to figure out what to do with. Thanks!
SparklyUnicorn
seaweed salad?! Are you going to have some steamed coral bits with that too?
happi duck
MEmama, your "I'm sick" meal is more involved that my "I feel like cooking today!" meals! If I'm sick I can barely orchestrate takeout! Hope you feel better soon! (Especially so your family doesn't need to suffer through anymore home made, farm fresh veggies, spring rolls! ;) )
MEmama
seaweed salad?! Are you going to have some steamed coral bits with that too? Mmmm seaweed salad when prepared well is fresh and delicious! Idk how to make it though and I'm too tired and unmotivated to figure it out tonight. Instead I'll put seaweed in a cold soba noodle salad. That'll do nicely. :)
Tita Gidge
Depends on if your spring rolls are fried or not :) (This is a heavily debated topic in my family!) Either way, we normally just eat spring rolls with steamed rice and soup. Hope you feel better soon!
MEmama
I've always had spring rolls fresh (made with rice paper); egg rolls are fried and made with a different wrapping.

Verbatim, this is what I tell my brothers. They insist on frying spring rolls. I'm not sure where my mom went wrong with them ....

AmandaVT
We have spring rolls with our spring rolls when we make them. They're a perfect meal! Also having them for dinner tonight actually. :-)

MEmama
I'll be impressed that Tita's brothers can even make spring rolls, even if they do it wrong ( ;) ). I doubt mine can make anything more than a bowl of cereal.
ktgrok
https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-difference-between-a-spring-roll-and-a-summer-roll I was very sad once to get what I consider a summer roll when I ordered a spring roll.

I would have been too. Further proof you can't believe everything you read on the internets. ;) I wonder if summer roll is a regional term? J-rap
Fried rice. Or, just plain rice and cooked broccoli or carrots.

MEmama
Chinese vs Vietnamese. Our favorite restaurant serves theirs fried and made sure we understood the difference. :) Wait--then which is which? Every.single Chinese restaurant I've been to has had spring rolls as rice paper rolls (not fried). But I've never been to a Vietnamese restaurant where it was any different. And the rice wraps I used tonight are Vietnamese and the instructions are for fresh (not fried). This is waayyy too much for my sick brain to figure out... KungFuPanda
Wait a minute! I thought: Egg rolls = thicker wrapping, bigger roll, heartier, fried, hot Spring roll = thin smooth wrapping, smaller, fried, hot Summer roll = smallest, served cold Now I'm confused. What can I make to go with them? Probably past dinner time now, but I'm surprised no-one has suggested (chicken) satay. I also have no idea what CSA veggies are. Similar distinction here, although summer rolls can be quite fat and large, almost like an egg roll, but cold and not cooked.
