Farrar Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 (edited) What's your favorite folk tale anthologies? I'd especially like ones that are worldwide or focused on a theme, but if there's one about a specific place or country you really love, I'd like to hear that too. Pretty illustrations are nice but not a necessity. Thanks. Edited July 20, 2016 by Farrar Quote
Kalmia Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 I don't actually have any of these so I can't vouch for them, but they are on my list to investigate when I develop a folk tale collection for our home library. idnib Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 (edited) World Tales by Idries Shah is by far my favorite. I was given a copy of this book when I was a kid, and I read it over and over again. When my kids were old enough to have it read to them, I rescued it from my parents' house and read it to them. It does have a bit of nudity in a few of the drawings. ETA: Apparently his foundation has made it available through Google Books UK, here. But it doesn't have the illustrations. Still, you can use it to check out the stories. The note says this is a copy of the paperback edition that doesn't have the art, and if that's the case, I would prefer the old hardcover with illustrations. I found an online photo of example art here. Edited July 20, 2016 by idnib 2 Quote
